FMT:
It’s not a lone person game, Nurul Izzah tells PKR presidential hopefuls
This will be the last term for Anwar Ibrahim, who is expected to retain the PKR presidency unopposed next month

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said whoever takes over the PKR presidency must be able to unite the party and foster a spirit of togetherness.
PETALING JAYA: With Anwar Ibrahim set for his final term as PKR president, his daughter Nurul Izzah has warned his potential successors not to be caught up with their own political culture or movements within the party.
Nurul Izzah, a PKR vice-president, said whoever takes over the top post from her father at the next PKR elections must be able to unite the party and foster a spirit of togetherness.
She said this was crucial in order to bolster the party’s structure and build strong trust among the rank and file, Berita Harian reported.
“We must all prepare ourselves, so that when there are responsibilities that can no longer be fulfilled (by a certain leader), we are ready to step in.
“However, at the same time, it’s not a lone person game. There needs to be a spirit of togetherness,” she was quoted as saying.
Anwar is expected to retain the PKR presidency unopposed during the party’s central leadership council elections next month. If re-elected, it would be his final term as party president, as PKR has a term limit for the post.
Anwar, who is prime minister, was first elected as PKR president in 2018 unopposed. The post was previously held by his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Anwar retained the post uncontested in the 2022 party polls.
PKR’s divisional elections over the past two weekends saw a slew of heavyweights losing their contests, including vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, youth chief Adam Adli and his predecessor Akmal Nasir.
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim claimed that PKR grassroots voted overwhelmingly against “elites” and “cartels” in the party, specifically citing the “Ayuh Malaysia” platform which he said tried to sideline Anwar.
“Ayuh Malaysia” was initiated by Rafizi Ramli ahead of the 2022 party elections where he was elected PKR deputy president after defeating Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
