PETALING JAYA: A beggar was found stabbed to death in front of a bank in Seksyen 18, Shah Alam, today, in a dispute police believe involved another alms-seeker.
Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said a member of the public notified the police about the dead man at noon. The victim, 40, was known to beg in the area near the bank.
Iqbal said a 28-year-old suspect with a record for criminal offences was arrested 30 minutes later at the scene.
“The suspect had wanted to ask for alms at the same spot. We believe this led to an argument between the two beggars.
“The suspect is believed to have brandished a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the chest,” he said in a statement.
Iqbal said police will file a remand application at the Shah Alam magistrates’ court tomorrow morning, adding that the suspect tested negative for drugs. The case is being probed as a murder.
