LETTER | With reference to DAP veteran AR Krishnan’s press statement in calling party delegates, members, and supporters for a renewed commitment to the true ideals of DAP at the expense of party national chairperson Lim Guan Eng and central executive committee (CEC) member RSN Rayer, it is grossly misleading and irresponsible and I detest his statement.
Why ask Lim to give way when he has contributed immensely during his tenure as the Penang chief minister and finance minister. Besides, he is well noted for his sharpness in keeping a check and balance of racism and extremist statements by certain political parties.
Why ask Rayer to give way when he has been the most outspoken parliamentarian to advocate for Indian issues and affairs in the country.
Rayer’s leadership of the Penang Hindu Endowment Board is excellent with utmost commitment, be it education, welfare, or facilities, and the latest being securing the lift for the Waterfall Hilltop temple that was fully sponsored by the private sector worth RM6 million.
Krishnan, who is a long-standing comrade, must know that the most powerful person in the DAP is not the national chairperson but the secretary-general. So why talk about Lim when he is no longer the secretary-general.
Why ask Lim to give way to younger leaders when he is not the oldest candidate in the DAP CEC election? The oldest candidate is Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. Why only ask Lim and not Chow to give way? Clearly there is a double standard and political motivation to unfairly target Lim.
Krishnan, who is 84 years old, should also take his own advice by giving way to younger leaders by relinquishing his post as the deputy chairperson of the DAP Indian Bureau in Penang.
