DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke announced that he will propose several internal party reforms, including the highly debated candidate selection mechanism, at the upcoming party congress this Sunday.
He stated that during his policy speech at the congress, he would put forward various suggestions, including a proposal to enshrine the candidate selection mechanism into the party constitution.
DAP’s candidate selection committee consists of five members, commonly referred to as the "five-member committee."
However, Loke emphasised that the committee is not necessarily limited to five members, nor is it a fixed requirement.
"It can consist of three, five, or even nine members," he said in a joint interview with selected media in the party headquarters this afternoon.
The Transport Minister noted that the composition of the committee is currently determined by the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
"It has always been decided by the CEC and is not stipulated in the party constitution. I hope that during my tenure, we can establish a better system," he said.
He further explained that any reforms requiring constitutional amendments will need approval from a party congress.
