Editor’s Note: The article earlier mistakenly used a photo of Balakong assemblyperson Wayne Ong. It has been amended to rightly show Federal Territories DAP publicity secretary Edmund Teoh. The error is regretted.

Summary

  • Federal Territories DAP publicity secretary Edmund Teoh quits his party posts and withdraws from its central executive committee polls.

  • He also denies the allegations levelled against him and vows to clear his name.

  • Teoh adds that during his tenure as aide to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, he has followed her instructions at all times.

Federal Territories DAP publicity secretary Edmund Teoh has resigned from his party post after he came under MACC’s radar for allegedly taking bribes in the supply of interactive smart boards for several schools in Kuala Lumpur.

“I resign from all positions I hold in the party.

“And I also withdraw from the party’s central executive committee contest scheduled for March 16,” Teoh (above) said in a statement today.

On March 7, Bernama reported MACC confirming the arrest of two people as part of investigations into alleged bribes in the supply of interactive smart boards for several schools in Kuala Lumpur.

MACC senior director of investigations Zainul Darus said the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

It is believed that two individuals - both men in their 30s - had solicited and received a bribe of approximately RM500,000 to facilitate the approval of RM1.5 million in Project Mesra Rakyat funds for the supply of the interactive smart boards.

It was later revealed that one of the persons being investigated was Teoh, a former aide to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

‘Baseless, politically motivated’

On that note, Teoh categorically dismissed all the allegations levelled against him, calling them baseless and politically motivated.

He also said that no charges had been filed against him as of now.

Touching on his 18 years of service to DAP, Teoh said he had backed Kok as her employee until his resignation in November last year.

“To that end, I had unconditionally followed and acted on her instructions at all material times,” he added.

While he steps away from party roles temporarily, Teoh said he would remain steadfast in his principles and defend his name against the allegations.

“I will take all necessary steps to ensure that the truth prevails and justice is served.

“This is not the end of my political journey, but rather a necessary pause.

“Once my name is cleared, I will return stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever to continue my fight for justice, integrity, and the people,” he added.
