MELAKA: A 68-year-old mechanic has been arrested over an alleged death threat against Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh on the handling of the controversy relating to socks sold at convenience store chain KK Super Mart.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said his men apprehended the suspect at Bukit Duyong, here on the same day after a police report was lodged at 10.21pm at Kandang police station on Tuesday (March 26).

However, he said the suspect was released on police bail, shortly after his statement was taken down due to his bout of ailments.

ACP Christopher Patit said the report was lodged by a 62-year-old retired Melaka Education Department's clerk to ensure the safety of the Umno Youth chief and Merlimau assemblyman.

He said the retiree was repairing his car at the suspect's workshop at 3pm on March 20 when the latter uttered “Ketua Pemuda Umno Malaysia banyak lebih lebih dalam isu KK Mart, satu hari dia pasti kena tembak kasi mati” (Umno Youth Chief is going overboard on the KK Super Mart issue, one day, he will be surely gunned down).

ACP Christopher Patit said the retiree wasn't happy with the apparent threat and was worried about Dr Muhamad Akmal's safety.

He said at 10am on Tuesday (March 26), the retiree decided to contact Dr Muhamad Akmal to advise him to lodge a police report on the threat.

ACP Christopher Patit said the report made by the retiree is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Dr Muhamad Akmal has also lodged a police report on the same issue at Jasin police headquarters at 5.30pm on the same day (March 26).
