A man who was doxxed and confronted by a group into apologising for his comments poking fun at the "Allah" socks controversy, will be charged tomorrow.

According to a media invite, the man is to be charged under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which covers misuse of network facilities.

The Act allows punishment of up to one year in jail or a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.

The 35-year-old had been arrested yesterday.

Two days ago, Malaysiakini reported that two men who made online comments deemed insulting over the issue of the word “Allah” printed on socks had been doxxed and physically confronted by groups who were unhappy with their posts.

In the arrested man's case, he had joked that the socks with the word “Allah” printed on them should be welcomed as it meant the person wearing it has Allah’s protection “from head to feet”.

He also edited a photo of blue socks with his face on them and quipped that this meant he had insulted himself.

This prompted online vigilantes to reveal and circulate the man's personal details, including his phone number and home address.

He later apologised after being confronted by an influencer silat instructor who goes by the name Panglima Aduka and his friends.

Panglima Aduka then posted a video where the man apologised and said he did not realise the seriousness of the matter when he made the posts.
