Skinny dipping: PAS decries Ahmad Said’s accusation against Hadi

KEMAMAN POLLS | Terengganu PAS has cried foul over the state’s Umno chairperson Ahmad Said’s accusation against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, which it describes as a malicious and distasteful slander.

Terengganu PAS deputy commissioner II Satiful Bahari Mamat claimed Ahmad had falsely accused Hadi of skinny dipping in an ablution pool at Rusila Mosque in Marang in his campaign speech for the Kemaman by-election.

“This is a wild accusation and an unethical and distasteful campaign method that should not be carried out by Ahmad, who is also a proposer or seconder of the BN candidate.

“I think this statement is beyond rational; perhaps the police should conduct a urine test on him,” Satiful (above) said at a press conference in Kemaman today.

Rusila Mosque is where Hadi usually deli
vers his sermons despite a ban against doing so.

In light of this, Satiful said PAS would lodge a police report on the matter and several other alleged campaign violations by BN throughout the by-election.

In a video clip circulating on social media, Ahmad purportedly shared an incident he claimed occurred three years ago.

“Three years ago, someone went out to the sea, came back by bus on Thursday at five o’clock, slept at Hadi's (mosque) to listen to a lecture. And at one point, someone found Hadi naked in the ablution pool,” he said.

The date and location of the video clip could not be determined.

In the video, Ahmad also spoke on the split between Umno and PAS in Terengganu following a dispute.

Distasteful campaign

Satiful said such a distasteful campaign is not only provocative and makes PAS supporters resentful but also makes BN supporters uncomfortable, and fence-sitters are likely to distance themselves.

“Terengganu PAS calls on Ahmad to stop such distasteful and malicious campaigns. Bring mature politics, not politics of slander, accusations, and fabrication,” he said.

Meanwhile, Satiful added that they also found BN's campaign to be in violation of election regulations, involving the use of government machinery and agencies.

He cited a programme by Felda Chairperson Ahmad Shabery Cheek with Felda settlers during the campaign period.

“Additionally, there are also ‘Jualan Rahmah’ (Rahmah Sales) in Kemaman under the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry during the Kemaman by-election.

“This repeats the ‘Jualan Rahmah’ in the Pelangai state constituency which had a by-election in September.

“This time, it takes place in four state constituencies within the Kemaman parliamentary constituency,” he explained, hoping that the Election Commission would take appropriate action.
