Ahmad Terrirudin succeeds Idrus Harun as AG

SOLICITOR-GENERAL Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh has been appointed the new attorney-general to replace Tan Sri Idrus Harun whose contract ends on Sept 5.

In a brief statement today, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said in accordance with Clause (1) Article 145 of the Federal Constitution, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has approved the appointment of Ahmad Terrirudin as attorney-general effective Sept 6.

“The government thanks Idrus for his service to the nation as Attorney General,” said Mohd Zuki in a statement on Friday (Sept 1).

Ahmad Terrirudin, 54, is reportedly the first candidate to come directly from the Judicial and Legal Service since former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, who was appointed to the office in 2002.

Abdul Gani served until 2015 when he was replaced by Mohd Apandi Ali. The latter was replaced by Tan Sri Tommy Thomas following the 15th general election (GE15) in 2018.

Ahmad Terrirudin served as the Federal Court’s chief registrar prior to his appointment as solicitor-general in March 2022. – Sept 1, 2023
