KUALA LUMPUR – After being lambasted by a peer for engaging in friendly fire, Klang’s new MP V. Ganabatirau has called on all relevant stakeholders to work together in resolving flood issues in Klang.

In a video posted on his official Facebook page, he said there is no need for critics to engage in personal attacks – rather, they should focus on resolving flood issues in Klang, where such a phenomenon has plagued the constituency for the past 20 years.

“Let us not find an excuse to ‘escape’ this issue. We need to find a common ground where we all can sit together (and work this out). This includes MPK (Klang Municipal Council), JPS (Irrigation and Drainage Department), and even the elected leaders here.

“I know as the new Klang MP, I have yet to be sworn in, but the people here often contacted me about their problems.

“So, there is no need to say that I am merely sitting at home on my sofa (posting about these issues), or anything of the sort.

“I hope those who are listening in (will understand that) I’m not trying to be a hero, but we should all work together to resolve the problem. If I have misspoken, I am sorry.”

He added that he had visited areas in the Bandar Baru Klang state constituency where several areas had faced flooding issues for the past 20 years.

This comes after fellow DAP member and Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Datuk Teng Chang Khim took offence at the now-deleted comments made by Ganabatirau over the sluice gate in Taman Sri Muda.

In two Facebook postings today, Teng slammed fellow DAP member Ganabatirau for “maliciously attack(ing) your own PH (Pakatan Harapan) comrades” and “giving a false impression that it (the floodgate) was in Klang”.

He added that the floodgate in Sri Muda is in Shah Alam, not Klang.

“What kind of MP is this? Not even sworn in but has started to do reporting on FB from home sofa and wildly accused his comrades in PH for not doing their jobs.

“Does he think that he won on his own merit in Klang with 90,000 majority votes?”

Teng also questioned Ganabatirau’s track record in the past four years, seeing that Taman Sri Muda is one of the worst affected flood areas in December last year.

“Yes, that must be other people’s fault.”

In a post that has since been deleted, Ganabatirau alluded that only two of the three assemblymen under the Klang parliamentary constituency are on the ground, as well as three out of 14 councillors.

“I’m trying my best connecting/educating them to prioritise the public issue…I believe soon it will be better with changes (sic).”

After Ganabatirau’s postings on the sluice gates were deleted, an aide said those posts were put up by a page administrator, and that the person has been “removed”. – The Vibes, December 12, 2022

  1. Ganabatirau has always been a hot headed loose cannon, akin to Penang's RSN Rater

I would say DAP made a bad decision to select him.

Issues that need cool, fact-based discussions and solutions, like the flood mitigation , are hardly Ganabatirau's forte.

  2. Malaysian politicians really don't seem to understand teamwork or team spirit.

If Teng feels Gana had wronged him, he (Teng) should contact Gana privately and lambast the latter. Teng could then bring the issue to the party leaders.

Not sure what kind of image the rakyat will have seeing 2 party members hitting each other publicly.

Quite stupid isn't it? But since this is Malaysia, perhaps it is par for the course.
