Johor MB wants legal action against those who gave away Pulau Batu Puteh

Onn Hafiz Ghazi

JOHOR BARU, June 26, 2022: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has called for legal action to be taken against those responsible for Malaysia’s loss of Pulau Batu Puteh to Singapore.

He said the federal government’s decision in 2018 to withdraw a review application regarding the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) decision on the Pulau Batu Puteh claim was a mistake.

He blamed the then Pakatan Harapan administration for setting a bad precedent by making the decision which he described as “a dark moment in the history of this sovereign nation”.

“Legal action should be taken against this betrayal,” he said while winding up the debate at the Johor assembly sitting in Kota Iskandar near here today.

He said it would be important to find out who actually advised the government at that time to make the decision on the matter.

Pulau Batu Puteh, which is about the size of a football field, is located about 14.3km from Tanjung Penyusop, Johor and 46km from Changi, Singapore.

Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had in his opening speech of the state assembly session on June 16, expressed disappointment with the federal government’s decision to withdraw its application for a judicial review on Pulau Batu Puteh.
