Kedah polls unlikely but ‘don’t blame me if anything happens’, says Umno No 2
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said he did not know of any Barisan Nasional assemblymen intending to withdraw support for Kedah’s PAS-led state government.
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has dismissed speculation that after Johor, Kedah will call for elections.
He said there was no urgent need for Kedah to have state elections, adding, however, that he was unaware of “any updates” within Kedah Umno that could see Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrawing support for the PAS-led state government.
“I am at (Umno) headquarters. I’m not aware of any ‘situation’ in Kedah. If anything happens there, don’t blame me, but for now I haven’t heard anything,” Mohamad said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending MCA’s Chinese New Year open house at Wisma MCA today.
Mohamad also cautioned that elections should not be held unless there was an urgent need for one.
He said this when asked whether Kedah Umno would withdraw support for the state government under menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor.
Last week, Sanusi denied that the Kedah state government was under threat following rumours that two Umno assemblymen intended to withdraw their support.
Ties between Umno and PAS have been strained after the Islamic party ditched Umno to side with Bersatu and contest under the Perikatan Nasional logo in the Melaka polls in November.

ReplyDeleteI wished the electorate would teach UMNO a lesson by punishing it in such unforced self-initiated snap polls, but the majority of voters are too far gone in their support for BN..
