Diplomatic barbarians - USA 2019 and Iran 1979

From Telesur:

US Raid on Venezuela Embassy 'A Brutal Act Against Int'l Law': Maduro

He urged the U.S. to respect the human rights of the activists inside the diplomatic headquarters for 36 days by the authority of Venezuelan officials.

The President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro rejected and repudiated the storming of its embassy by United States police officers Thursday.

The Venezuelan head of state says he gave instructions to take its complaint of the event to the highest authorities and is expecting U.N. member states to make declarations against this violation.

"The U.S. has raided the premises of the Venezuelan embassy in Washington ... a brutal act against international law and lack of respect for embassies in the world," said the president.

"I have told our Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, that we should take the complaint to the highest levels and that the U.N. system should rule sooner rather than later on this serious violation of the Venezuelan Embassy in the U.S.," he said.

On another note, he urged the U.S. government to respect the human rights of the activists who were inside the diplomatic headquarters for 36 days by the authority of Venezuelan officials.

Activists had been defending the embassy building since the two governments broke diplomatic relations. However, U.S. authorities and the Venezuelan opposition sought to cut off electricity and water services to the building, as well as prevent food from entering by keeping a siege on the premises daily.

Wikipedia informs us:

The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic standoff between the United States and Iran. Fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981, after a group of Iranian college ... took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. ...

Western media described the crisis as an "entanglement" of "vengeance and mutual incomprehension." American President Jimmy Carter called the hostage-taking an act of "blackmail" and the hostages "victims of terrorism and anarchy."

What's the difference between Iranian students violating the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and American police officers violating the Venezuelan embassy in 2019, both in contravention of Vienna Convention?

I'd say it's worse on the part of the USA because the American violators have been policemen whilst the Iranian violation was by undisciplined unruly students, not unlike unruly behaviour by BN members violating the Apcet II convention in KL in 2006.

For more of the KL fracas, read Apcet II Disgrace - all for an alien nation!.

can anyone spot a current minister, wakakaka

The American diplomats were threatened with execution with a gun held against their forehead.

The Venezuelans have not been subject to any violence.

    1. "... not subject to any violance"? what are you smoking, wakakaka

  2. Another point is the Americans seized by Iran were accredited diplomats, who were supposed to be sacrosanct.

The Venezuelan protesters have no legal standing.

    1. we are talking about Venezuelan embassy ground which is Venezuelan territory, so think carefully of what you've said - think also of Julian Assange's sanctuary in the Ecuadorean Embassy for 6 years

    2. Wakakakaka…

Think also about the United States bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade!

On May 7, 1999, during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia (Operation Allied Force), five US Joint Direct Attack Munition guided bombs hit the People's Republic of China embassy in the Belgrade district of New Belgrade, killing three Chinese journalists and outraging the Chinese public.

These Yankees r still the REAL cowboys roaming in the old western front, thinking they can do what they want!

  3. I think we are over-simplifying the issue here.

Most countries in Europe and the Americas (and Australia) either recognize Guaido as the Venezuelan President or are calling for fresh elections. They believe Maduro "won" the last elections via fraud. Of course China and Russia disagree, as they always do....

    https://bigthink.com/strange-maps/which-countries-support-maduro-guaido

This dispute between the two factions, Maduro vs Guaido, has spilled over to the US where there is a fight over the control of their embassy there. The US law enforcers got involved to control the peace and security as the fighting erupted inside the embassy compound, yes, inside Venezuelan territory, so are they supposed to just stand by and watch the fighting? We would be having a different discussion today if people got killed and the US police just watched. When the US police entered the compound they took the side of Guaido, because that is the faction the US government recognizes.

Telesur is the Latin American terrestrial and satellite television network headquartered in Caracas, Venezuela and sponsored primarily by the government of Venezuela (ie Maduro), with additional funding from the governments of Cuba, Nicaragua, Uruguay, and Bolivia. And guess which countries support Maduro's presidency? Cuba, Nicaragua and Bolivia, of course. So this report is heavily biased.

P/S. The US is also taking a bit of "revenge" over all the US assets in Venezuela seized and nationalized in the past.....yes....payback time....

  4. No wonder Ahjibkor using MEIO was trying to persuade Uncle Sam not to make him suffer the fate like Maduro in case he wins the GE14 elections via various frauds like electoral gerrymandering, manipulating results of elections announcements etc.

And it involve millions of RM under MEIO. I wonder whether CIA was already compromised by the lady in MEIO who is awaiting trial for keeping some for herself.
