Dr Mahathir resigned from UMNO?

I am surpised Malaysiakini hasn't scooped this yet but the Star Online has informed us the ultimate news - today just after noon, Dr M has annouced his decision to quit UMNO, saying he has lost his confidence in the current UMNO leadership.

I wonder whether the 'final straw' is a strategic or tactical move, or a genuine sense of unrecoverable exasperation after his meeting with his favourite, Najib where he finally realised he has been outmanouvred every which way by Mr Elegant Silence. Err ... is this a case where 'silence is golden'?

However, Dr M advised those who intend to join him in resigning, not to join any other party (hmmm, I wonder who had in mind), but to wait for the correct time to rejoin UMNO.

Of course Najis couldn't be moved by Mahakhinzir.
His b*lls are sitting in a Mongolian cookie jar in Bedol's closet.

  2. Could it be another devious, calculated move by a devious mind?
Could mahathir do this as a pre-emptive move? Could he have got wind of AAB wanting to take him to court on the Lingam’s tapes affair? He is doing this as a distraction and to dis-stabilise the government so that he can get off scot-free

  4. Mahathir and Ku Li should get together and form a new political party. They can call it Semangat 69.

  5. Well, whatever the reason or strategy, the dUMNO boys are definitely jittery, going by what K. Toyol & No-Relation-To-Jessica Alba(r) had to say to The Star in their updated report.

But it all indicates that TDM is probably thinking to destabilize UMNO enough before November... but by that time, will there be anyone left in the party to vote? (It's a not-so-serious rhetorical question, btw)

Sort of reminds me of the saying about the tree falling in the forest but with nobody around to witness it... dunno why, but it does.

  6. There we go again, Mamak Mahafiraun the Deviously Wicked is up to his old tricks one more time, namely, stirring up resentment and anger among some segments of the rakyat with his provocative remarks.

In the Sunday Star he is alleged to have said: "After the land (in Johore) is sold, the Malays will be driven to live at the edge of the forest and even the forest itself.

"In the end, the area in the Iskandar Malaysia will be filled with Singaporeans and populated with only 15% Malays.
    "

In another report on the same day, the Sunday Star wrote: "The Malays have loosened their grip in political power to the point where non-Malays no longer respect them and their institutions, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

The former Prime Minister said everything deemed as Malay privileges had been questioned and challenged by the non-Malays.
    "

Okay, let's ask of ourselves this question: Is it correct to conclude that more than a trace of rabid xenophobic racism is on overt display here?

Further on in the same report the newspaper wrote: "... he (Dr Mahathir) labelled all UMNO division chiefs as traitors to the Malays as they did not have the courage to stand up to Pak Lah.

"In a democratic system, the people can force a leader to step down if he is wrong
    ."

Hmmm ... what do we have here? -- Hell hath no fury like a man whose crooked bridge is thwarted? He he he! ;-)

  7. Shahrir also said that Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir should be the first to take up his father's suggestion to quit.

  8. Referring to Azleena's comments above, I remember KTemoc having blogged previously about how whenever UMNO hits a rough patch their leaders would trot out their favourite whipping boy, that is, the non-Malays who would be made to bear the brunt of UMNO's angst.

Well, it looks like the Tun Dr is not above stooping to doing the same thing here, which is to make use of the non-Malays to fire up UMNO members' hostility in order to manipulate them to support his schemes.

  10. Oh my, how willing the Maha Firaun is to sacrifice the non-Malays on the altar of his ambition and the furtherance of his agenda.

How ready the Maha Firaun is in sacrificing the non-Bumis on the altar of his Ego.

  13. mahathir is trying to fan the issue so that he can get all the publicity. We, who are not in UMNO should not help him to fan the flame. From now on we should be more restrain in our response and reaction to what he says and does.

Don’t help him, don’t fall into his trap. Just stand aside and watch!
