PETALING JAYA: A private company is suing the Kedah state government for RM310 million after it was told to return a plot of land that had been earmarked for iron ore mining.
The company, Aras Niaga Group Berhad named the Kedah State Secretary Incorporated, its general manager, and the Kedah state secretary as defendants, Bernama reported.
The firm’s lawyer, Firhat Muhammad Fikris said Aras Niaga decided to take legal action after it was instructed to return the 255-hectare land in Kuala Muda, which had been leased in 2020.
The company is now seeking damages amounting to RM300 million for breach of promise and RM10 million in compensation for the work carried out on the site.
Aras Niaga executive chairman Annas Anuar said the company had planned to collaborate with Permodalan Kedah Berhad to develop an iron ore mine on the site.
He said the state government did not entertain their requests for mining licences, which put the project in limbo. “Moreover, in a meeting with the Kedah SSI general manager, we were asked to return the land,” he was quoted as saying.
He said the company had secured a 45-year lease for the site and fulfilled all prerequisites necessary to initiate the development of the iron ore mine.
“However, in the end, we were not granted the mining license, and it is clearly detrimental to the company.”

SIBU, March 31 — Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has been dissolved, revealed a reliable source.
“It has been officially dissolved with the blessing from the Registrar of Societies,” the source said.
The party’s dissolution comes ahead of a ‘Unity Night’ organised by the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) on April 6 at a hotel here.
The source said the dinner was being held to welcome former PSB leaders and members into the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component party.
“It is going to be a big welcoming dinner, welcoming all the (former) PSB leaders and members en bloc into PDP.”
PSB is reported to have about 80,000 members across Sarawak.
According to a dinner ticket sighted by The Borneo Post today, it states: ‘Welcome Ex-leaders and Ex-members of PSB Join PDP Party’.
It was learnt that about 1,500 PSB members across Sarawak are expected to join the dinner.
PSB is believed to have decided on its dissolution during an Extraordinary Delegates Conference here last month.
However, PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh had declined to confirm the matter, saying that an announcement would be made when the time was right.
This comes after speculation that PSB would be dissolved to pave way for its members to join PDP en bloc, and the two parties have been in talks since last year.
Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding on July 13, 2023 in Kuala Lumpur as a means to pursue their political collaboration.
Meanwhile, during a Chinese New Year visit to Wong’s residence last month, PDP president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing had said the proposed PDP-PSB merger would be done in accordance with the anti-party hopping law.
PSB was formed in 2014 as United People’s Party and rebranded in 2019 as PSB.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — An outing of a family of five to fish in a river at Jalan KP 4/9 Kota Perdana, Seri Kembangan, near here, ended in tragedy when one of the children was found drowned, while the mother and another child went missing after a water surge hit them.
The Selangor Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, said they received a distress call regarding the incident at 4.35 pm.
“We received a report from the survivor, a 40-year-old male saying that his 38-year-old wife and their children, two boys aged nine and 10 and a four-year-old girl were swept away by strong currents,” he said in a statement here, today.
Ahmad Mukhlis said the Water Rescue Team of the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to the scene, adding that they managed to locate the body of the 10-year-old boy at 7.01 pm, about one kilometre from where they were last seen.
He said members of the public managed to rescue his nine-year-old brother at 5.18 pm, adding that efforts are underway to locate the mother and daughter.
He said initial investigations revealed that the victims were netting fish in the area before being hit by the water surge. — Bernama

A friend of mine sent me the above. With some of his comments as follows:
"Nothing like this statement has been issued by others. PN's restraint in the socks issue, genuine or otherwise, is brilliant. They've maxed out Malay support and can't lose it as long as PKR-Umno are buddies with DAP.
And Akmal's behaviour will continue to repel non-Malays.
PN doesn't need to attract non-Malay votes, they just have to NOT APPEAR as so much of a threat to non-Malays that the non-Malays don't go out to vote for PH.
With Undi18 and current Malay support for PN, after next election we should see PN+GPS+GRS
Lots of East Malaysians are in denial that GPS and GRS would work with PN but they forget the Sheraton Move, the best thing to ever happen to Sarawak."
My Comments :
Frankly I really dont know how this bunch of clowns have survived this far. Every week there is some bungling behaviour. Every month there is a major controversy which they either create or just do not know how to handle.
It is non stop. They just bungle along.
As time passes there is a new big loser that is being created. That is DAP. Perhaps the DAP is not aware but they are losing plenty support. The Chinese vote is now beginning to slip. As the comment above suggests the Chinese may just not go out to vote for the PH.
In the last set of by-elections in the SIX States in August 2023 the DAP lost ground and their previous winning margins were reduced.
The PH held its three States but with significantly reduced majorities. In the remaining three Malay states the PH was wiped out. UMNO won only 19 out of the 108 state seats they contested. That is only 17% - a very poor failing grade.
But here is my point - since August 2023 do you think the PH has become less unpopular? I dont think so. They are becoming more and more unpopular.
As I said every week there is some bungle. Every month there is some major controversy.
The DAP bungled in 2018. So they got kicked out in 2020. Then 2022 was a second chance for the DAP. You are bungling again. I dont think you will get a third chance.
The PH waited 25 years to make it to Putrajaya. Looking at how incompetent, foolish and predatory they are perhaps we should have given them the gomen in 1999. They would have been thrown into the trash bin 23 years ago. We could have moved on.
Now 25 years later quarter way through the 21st century they are screwing things up.

My friend Sam the CEO sent that to me with the following comments:
"What is not being said is that this is islamic terrorism that has arrived in Malaysia. We never had this before. Malaysia is entering the era of being a Lebanon".
The previous case was in Bidor, Perak. If the culprit(s) in Perak had been arrested maybe this case in Kuantan may not have happened. But sadly despite Bidor being a small town no arrests have been made yet.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh says this goes against the principle of partnership and work done over two decades at the request of the health ministry.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Medical Council’s non-recognition of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s (RCSEd) cardiothoracic surgery parallel pathway programme goes against the principle of partnership and work undertaken at the request of the country’s health ministry, says RCSEd president Rowan W Parks.
In a letter to health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, Parks said the decision by MMC has put excellent surgeons, who have been trained and assessed robustly, in an untenable, distressing and unfair position.
He said the RCSEd has a long relationship with Malaysia, having been involved in training the country’s cardiothoracic surgeons since 2000 when one of its top surgeons Pala Rajesh was invited by the National Heart Institute (IJN) to initiate and develop the video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery programme.
“The RCSEd was also invited by the health ministry, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (AMM), and the Malaysian Association for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (MATCVS) to help develop a national training programme in cardiothoracic surgery for the country.
Rowan W Parks.
“We were made aware of a severe shortage of cardiothoracic surgeons in Malaysia and the absence of any structured training programme of an internationally acceptable standard to meet the needs of the population then,” Parks said in the letter sighted by FMT.
Following this, he said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in 2014 between AMM and RCSEd, endorsed by then health minister Dr S Subramaniam and then director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The MoU was to accredit and assure the quality of training centres in cardiothoracic surgery in Malaysia, and to develop a curriculum for the training of the surgeons.
Accreditation, quality assurance visits
Parks said the RCSEd was invited to accredit training centres for this purpose, adding that together with its top surgeons and ministry officials, they inspected five cardiothoracic units to accredit and assure their quality as training centres.
They were IJN, Serdang Hospital, Pulau Pinang Hospital, Sarawak Heart Centre, and Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
In addition to this, further visits were made for this purpose to IJN, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru, and Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kota Bharu.
“Working in partnership with AMM, MATCVS and the ministry, RCSEd developed a curriculum for the cardiothoracic surgery parallel pathway training programme in Malaysia, which follows the UK intercollegiate surgical curriculum.
“The entry criteria, duration of training, formative assessments with work-based assessments, and annual reviews of competence and progression assessments follow the same criteria and standards as approved by the UK General Medical Council (GMC),” he said.
According to Parks, 32 candidates have entered the cardiothoracic surgery parallel pathway training programme, four of whom have completed their training, and another eight have successfully passed their exit examinations.
Stringent examinations
Park said candidates must successfully complete at least four years of higher specialist training in cardiothoracic surgery, and be signed off by their programme director, before being eligible to take the examination, as per the practice in the United Kingdom.
He added that the examination is of the same standard as the UK Intercollegiate Specialty Board examination in cardiothoracic surgery and the only exam used in Singapore and Hong Kong.
It comprises a written single best answer paper, which tests knowledge across the breath of the syllabus; a clinical examination section which includes clinical scenarios, communication, and patient engagement skills; and a viva examination which explores the depth of knowledge, international guidelines, and complication management, among others.
“Examiners are provided by RCSEd from the UK while senior surgeons from the region are also trained and appointed. Expertise with regards to standard setting, quality assurance, psychometrics and question bank are provided by RCSEd according to standards required by the GMC.
“Candidates who pass are awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in cardiothoracic surgery, a qualification which enables them to apply for specialist registration as cardiothoracic surgeons in the UK,” he said.
Long working relationship with Malaysia
Parks said RCSEd highly values its long working relationship with the health ministry, AMM and MATCVS in training cardiothoracic surgeons to the highest standards and quality.
He said they have also established a regional office in Kuala Lumpur, and also conduct training courses and examinations for surgeons and dentists.
“We award the Tuanku Mukhriz Travelling Fellowship annually to provide surgeons with greater experience and training in rural surgery in Malaysia. We hope to be able to continue these collaborative activities to increase the standards and quality of surgeons practicing in Malaysia,” he said.
