Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli revealed that he had received an update on Dec 1 regarding a probe to find the mastermind behind a syringe attack on his son last August.

However, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail shut down his request via Parliament for details from the update to be confirmed publicly.

In a written reply yesterday, Saifuddin (above) told Rafizi (Harapan-Pandan) that this is to avoid disrupting investigations.

"An open confirmation (of details) in the Dewan Rakyat, there is concern that this will disrupt the process of tracing the suspect and can jeopardise the safety of key witnesses. As such, the request can't be fulfilled," he said.

The minister, however, assured that justice will be upheld and that the Home Ministry or police will provide a public update eventually.

Last August, Rafizi's then 12-year-old son was stabbed with a syringe at a Putrajaya mall car park.

Following the attack on his son, Rafizi's wife received a chilling text message that read: “Diam! Andai teruskan, AIDS!” (“Shut up! If you continue, AIDS!”), punctuated with three syringe emojis.

The boy is in stable condition.

Rafizi later insinuated the attack may have been related to a meeting he had with whistleblowers concerning former politician Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Farhash has dismissed any links between him and the attack and has sued Rafizi for defamation.
