KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — Padang Rengas Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has expressed full support for the government’s decision not to appeal the High Court ruling on Sabah’s entitlement to 40 per cent of federal revenue collected from the state.

Mohamed Nazri said the decision was very appropriate and should be commended as it demonstrated the government’s regard for the will of the public.

“We must remember this is a government chosen by the people and established for the people, so on what grounds should we appeal when the court sides with the people?” he said.

Mohamed Nazri also cited to a recent viral video of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explaining to a youth in Sabah that there was no reason not to give the 40 per cent entitlement desired by Sabahans.

"It would be different if the government decided to give 40 percent to Sabah if it were another country,” Mohamed Nazri said.

He also said the allocation was reasonable since Sabah was part of Malaysia and that there was no loss to Peninsular Malaysians in granting it.

The Attorney General’s Chambers said the Federal Government decided yesterday not to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s Oct 17 judgment and would immediately begin negotiations with the Sabah Government following a Cabinet meeting on the matter.
