KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — The case involving Malaysian rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, has been sent to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), the police have said, amid a probe on Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadli Marsus said investigation papers for Wee’s case have been referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office today, and is still awaiting further instructions”.
Fadli’s brief statement this evening on Wee’s case comes ahead of the expiry of the latter’s remand tomorrow.
Hsieh, known online as Iris Hsieh or “Nurse Goddess”, had been found dead in the bathroom of a hotel room along Jalan Conlay in Kuala Lumpur on October 22.
On November 4, Hsieh’s case was reclassified from a sudden death case to a murder case.
On November 5, Wee had appeared at the Dang Wangi police station to both lodge a police report and assist in police investigations into Hsieh’s death.
The police had on November 5 obtained a six-day remand for Wee to facilitate police investigations, and on November 10 obtained a three-day extension of the remand for Wee.
Tomorrow is the last day of Wee’s remand.
Typically, a decision would be made to either release or charge an individual at the end of their extended remand.
Previously, Wee had been arrested on October 22 in a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, with the police saying that nine pills suspected to be Ecstasy had been found there.
Wee was charged in court on October 24 with two offences for drug possession and drug use, and had pleaded not guilty and been released on bail. The drug cases’ next case mention is on December 18.
