MALAYSIANS from around the world chipped in to raise RM10,000 for a single mother to settle her medical bills.
According to a post from activist Kuan Chee Heng, popularly known as Uncle Kentang, the 34-year-old mother went into labour alone at her home in Subang Jaya recently.
She gave birth to twins all by herself, but sadly, the baby girl died while her brother survived.
However, he needed urgent intensive care and in desperation, the woman, a Grab driver, called her boyfriend.
"Her boyfriend, who works in a handphone shop told ger to throw the baby away. 😡😡😡
"The shaken mother then called an ambulance and rushed her son to UMMC where he was placed in the NICU," said Kuan.
He said the mother already had a three-year-old son and could not afford the medical bills.

"She also told the medical officers in the ambulance that she does not have any money to pay UMMC," he said.
Kuan then took to social media to help raise money to settle the RM10,000 bill.
He said he had raised RM5,000 and needed to pay the hospital another RM5,000.
"I also have to find a nanny which will cost around RM2,000 a month to look after the baby," he said.
Kuan's post drew widespread attention and donations began pouring in, hitting RM10,000.
There were even Malaysians from Dubai, Hong Kong, the United States, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand, while others also offered items like clothing and direct financial assistance.
In another post, Kuan highlighted that the woman and her baby have been provided with free confinement services by a kind Samaritan.
He said that the baby boy is now almost 2 kgs and the mother has moved from Subang Jaya to SS2 as she could not bear the horrific memories.
Kuan also sang praises of the medical team at UMMC and that they had contacted the Social Welfare Department for further assistance. - August 27, 2025
