Pua’s words reek of hypocrisy, says Puad

Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi has accused former MP Tony Pua of hypocrisy following his post in support of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

This comes after Pua defended the Selangor government’s appointment of Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti) as one of two companies to run a bus-on-demand pilot project.

The company’s owner and CEO Ramachandran Muniandy is Yeoh’s husband, while another Asia Mobiliti co-founder Premesh Chandran is a director and former CEO of Malaysiakini.

In response, Puad said that even if Asia Mobiliti has the necessary experience, it does not justify “bulldozing” proper governance.

“Suddenly, Pua has appeared like an angel. He brings a hypocritical argument to defend Yeoh.

“The main controversial issue here is governance, conflict of interest and double standards in terms of investigation,” said Puad.

He noted that the raised issues, along with Yeoh’s status in DAP and the exco who approved the project being in the same party, are why the matter needs to be investigated.

“Is it not possible that if a text message ‘PM Tepi’ was sent, it can be a conflict of interest?” he lamented.

Pua had also slammed those who compared Yeoh’s position to that of former minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, whose husband - National Feedlot Corporation executive chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail - was embroiled in a lawsuit to reclaim a multimillion ringgit loan.

‘Shahrizat a victim as well’

Puad took exception to this and questioned the fairness of Pua’s comparison.

“Pua says Yeoh is a victim of perception.

“Were Shahrizat and her husband not victims of perception for 12 years? The court ruled they are innocent,” he said.

“Luckily, Pua was not long in the Finance Ministry and was not someone influential in the ministry. (If not), there would be a lot of hypocrisy in the name of performance and wisdom,” Puad added.

Yesterday, Yeoh broke her silence on the matter, saying that she welcomed the probe by the MACC.

“Now that the probe has started, I want to see truth and vindication come out of this investigation.

“Malaysia deserves nothing less,” she said in an Instagram post.
