PETALING JAYA: It is widely rumoured that DAP will field an aide to housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11.

A Pakatan Harapan (PH) minister told FMT that Pang Sock Tao, Nga’s press secretary, would be nominated by DAP.

FMT has not been able to confirm the matter but has reached out to Pang for comment.

Nga reportedly refused to deny or confirm the matter, saying only to “wait for tonight’s announcement”, according to MalaysiaGazette.

Nga, a DAP vice-chairman, previously drew brickbats for unveiling an allocation of RM5.21 million for Hulu Selangor residents, which will also be used for projects in Kuala Kubu Baharu town.

The minister denied that the allocation was in view of the by-election, instead saying, “We chose this area because it’s an auspicious place. The ‘feng shui’ here is good.”

Electoral reform group Bersih slammed Nga for the announcement of funds, saying it contradicted the principles of fair and ethical competition as the allocation could be perceived as an attempt to sway voters and buy their support.

Muda’s Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman also mocked Nga over his “good feng shui” comment, saying the minister should also visit his parliamentary constituency to see its “good feng shui”.

Yesterday, PH’s by-election director Ng Sze Han said DAP had shortlisted 10 potential candidates to contest the Selangor state seat.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat fell vacant following the death of three-term assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21 due to cancer. Nominations for the by-election will be held this Saturday.
