Netizens fume as PAS stir up racial discord over Jonker Walk giant dragon procession

PAS information chief Fadhli Shaari has come under fire for instigating racial hatred by a pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) netizen with his one-liner social media post of “beautiful dragon parade with the flag of China”.

The netizen CIKYNIE (@lady_bugg11) reckoned that the ultimate motive of the Pasir Mas MP’s shallow message is none other than to spark racial discord.

“The fact is the 588-foot dragon replica was specially designed in conjunction with the 50th celebration of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations,” tweeted the self-proclaimed chef and businesswoman on X (previously Twitter).

Terbaru dari Fadhli Shaari, Ketua Penerangan Pas yg menaikkan artikel berbunyi ‘ Perarakan naga yang cantik bersama bendera Negara China’. Apa tujuannya? Hakikatnya: 1. Replika Naga 588 kaki itu direka khas sempena sambutan Ke-50 hubungan diplomatik Malaysia-China. 2. Bendera… Show more

“The Malaysian flag is placed on one side of the Dragon replica and the Chinese flag on the other side.”

Added CIKYNIE with a penchant for political and culinary tweets: “PAS’ strategy of fanning racial and religious issues will eventually destroy the harmony of various races in our country.”

For the uninitiated, the Jonker Walk dragon procession which took place on Feb 2 has entered the Malaysia Book of Record.

The event graced by Melaka Deputy Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture EXCO Datuk Zaidi Attan boasts a 588-foot-long (179.2-meter) dragon replica with a head weight of 60kg which was paraded by some 180 individuals, including school pupils from Melaka and China.

Interestinghly, netizen Ahmad ULWI (@ulwi_ahmad) commented that Fadhli who was previously the PAS Youth chief has edited his Facebook post to delete the part where he had chided the Madani government for condoning such event.

Elsewhere, PUSPANATHAN MUNIANDY (@n_puspanathan) shared the logo of the China’s Embassy in Kuala Lumpur which depicts motifs of both nations’ flags, national flower and gigantic man-made structures in both countries.

“There is a need for PAS to learn and have a proper understanding on the state of diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China,” added the netizen.” – Feb 9, 2024
