PUTRAJAYA: Clerk Sam Ke Ting, who was freed in the modified bicycle or “basikal lajak” case today, has apologised to the parents of the eight children who died in the 2017 accident.

Sam acknowledged that her apology would not bring the teenagers back and may not give the parents any peace.

“I will carry this feeling (of guilt) to the grave,” she told reporters after the court proceedings.

She said she did not intend to cause the accident, which occurred during the early hours of Feb 18, 2017.

The Court of Appeal had freed Sam from a charge of dangerous driving which caused the deaths of the eight teenagers riding modified bicycles in Johor Bahru in 2017.

The appellate court held that the charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act was defective.

  1. There is already growing anger on-line that she got away "on a technicality", a faulty charge.

Loud demands are growing for her to be rearrested and recharged, this time to be done properly.

  3. The court has already acquitted and discharge her, now let's put the past behind & move forward for the betterment of everybody.

  4. Her Apology will likely be grounds for a Civil Suit by the aggrieved families of the children to demand compensation for negligence.
