Bring it on, says Loke on potential clash with KJ in Seremban

Loke Siew Fook says Seremban will be among the hottest seats in GE15 if Khairy Jamaluddin were to stand against him.

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has welcomed a potential clash with Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin for the Seremban parliamentary seat in the coming general election (GE15).

Loke said Khairy was a political figure of great calibre and would be a strong contender wherever he contested.

“The competition will be fierce and (if Khairy were to contest in Seremban) it will be among the hottest seats in GE15,” he said in a Facebook post.

The two-time Seremban MP said he was not afraid to take on the challenge and was ready to defend his seat regardless of who was contesting against him.

“Let the voters evaluate and decide whether I remain qualified to represent their interests in the Dewan Rakyat,” he said.

Yesterday, Seremban Umno Youth called for Khairy to contest in the constituency, following reports that party deputy president Mohamad Hasan wanted to take over his Rembau seat.

Khairy, who has held the Rembau parliamentary seat since 2008, had said he would not contest in GE15 in the event he was not given a constituency.

He told reporters that Mohamad had sent a message asking to “get out of the way”, adding that he would adhere to the party’s instructions.

Mohamad, who is also the Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, had said he intended to contest a parliamentary seat in GE15 for him to play a role at the federal level.

The former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, who has held the Rantau state seat since 2004, did not say which parliamentary seat he intended to contest.

Rantau is one of four state seats under the Rembau parliamentary constituency.

Loke mustn't be too overconfident, lest he suffers the fate of Dr Chen in the latter's fight with Lee San Choon in the Seremban seat - wakakaka.
