KUALA LUMPUR: Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah today said the government has a duty to implement recommendations by a royal commission of inquiry into losses suffered by Bank Negara Malaysia over its foreign currency dealings in the 1990s.
This comes after Putrajaya said there would be “no further action” over the findings of the inquiry, which had among others recommended Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim to be investigated over their role in the losses.
“It’s a serious matter because the government incurred a loss of over RM30 billion due to the forex exchange dealings,” said Razaleigh, who once served as finance minister during Mahathir’s first term in power.
“We should not have been involved in the first place especially Bank Negara who was allegedly doing this,” the Gua Musang MP told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

The inquiry had found that the central bank lost RM31.5 billion in foreign exchange trading between 1992 and 1994.
It said “excessive” and “speculative” trading amounted to a criminal breach of trust under Sections 406 and 409 of the Penal Code.
Mahathir’s lawyer Hanif Khatri Abdulla had accused the RCI report of being “half-baked” for failing to include documents supplied by Mahathir during its hearing.

  1. Nice to see even Ku Li is now talking like LKS. He don't have to shout any more....even UMNO is shouting Kit's message from 30 years ago..

We should definitely exhume this dinosaur carcass from the earlier Toonsie era and at the same time accelerate the post mortem of the dead elephant in the room now....1MDB. Kill two birds with one stone. Then Toonsie/Bersatu as well as Anwar/Azmin/PKR will jostle each other for DAP's support even as UMNO fall into the grasp of PAS.

But Toonsie already has a plan to tackle this. He will say:

"From now on we must follow the PROCESS. The PM cannot act unilaterally. Let's form a Task Force on this FOREX issue, who will table a report to the PSC who will direct a High Powered Committee to formulate an Action Plan for Bank Negara to study the feasibility of implementation and table it to the Finance Ministry for fine tuning and spell-check and then present it to the Cabinet for approval...."

Oh, no. Another contender hoping to be UMNO President. He smelled an opening and trying to make himself relevant also.

Where are the rest? On the way! On the way! The old adage of politicians living in an animal farm is never far away from the truth.
