I saw the Opening ceremony for the Asian Games at Doha where Ipoh-born Chong Lim, now resident in Australia, had been appointed as its musical director.
Here is Qatar, an Arab Muslim country, displaying in its Opening Ceremony various facets of multi-cultural features, like Indian folk dances, Chinese lion and dragon dances, Buddhist Thai dances, Chinese mythological personalities and Hindu Balinese gods, icons and dresses, etc.
I would have sworn that this was the opening ceremony that could have been and perhaps should have been shown in the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
But alas, it has to take an Arab nation to show us how a multicultural opening ceremony should be conducted, while our very own wannabe Arabs would have torn their hair and beard off at the very ‘haram’ (according to Malaysian Islamic standards) display.
