Aussies Pray for Nguyen

Nguyen Tuong Van, a drug trafficker of 400 gm of heroin, will die tomorrow at dawn in Changi prison. All appeals have failed. Even a request for his mum to give a farewell hug was turned down.

Strangely, for this Asian Aussie male of 25 years old, without the drawing appeal of either Schapelle Corby or Michelle Leslie, his execution tomorrow has somehow pulled together Aussies of various faiths, and also many people around the world, into praying for him.

Catholics, Anglicans, Muslims, Buddhists, even Douglas Wood, former kidnapped victim in Iraq and the Sante Egidio community in Italy have all prayed for him.

An Australian Islamic leader, Keysar Trad, said:

"I'd say most Muslims in Australia would have the same sympathies for Nguyen as the rest of the Australian community. It just seems that capital punishment for drugs offences is not in keeping with today's standards and expectations."

  2. Well, ho hum, not all Aussies are praying for this scum, not the majority at least and me, included.

Your paper of reference would point to that! - "http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2005/12/01/1133311133528.html"
