Headmaster held over alleged assault on Year 1 pupil

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested a headmaster to assist in an investigation into the alleged assault on a Year 1 pupil that resulted in injuries last Tuesday.
Johor Bahru Utara police chief Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said they received a report from the seven-year-old pupil’s father at about 9.45am on Tuesday.
He said an initial investigation revealed that the pupil was believed to have been assaulted by the 48-year-old headmaster in the school canteen earlier that morning.
The headmaster was arrested at the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters at 4.55pm on the same day.
He was released on police bail yesterday after being remanded for three days to assist in the investigation.
Radin said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with abuse or exposure of a child to physical or emotional injury.
