Houses of worship

DAP chairperson Gobind Singh Deo has urged the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to provide an “immediate and clear” explanation on the lack of prosecution against those who have threatened to unilaterally demolish places of worship.

Gobind, who is also the digital minister, claimed that despite the lodging of numerous police reports, there appears to be a “total lack of follow-up action” from authorities.

“I have raised this matter in the cabinet on numerous occasions. However, the final authority to prosecute rests with the attorney-general.

“He must explain why there has been such a slow response thus far and what he intends to do to change the growing perception of inaction,” the Damansara MP said in a statement today.

State policy

DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng urged the Penang state government to abandon its quit rent calculation system, claiming that the blueprint developed over the past two years has failed and created unfair burdens for landowners.

In a statement on Facebook, the ex-Penang chief minister argued that the existing formula does not adequately consider factors such as income levels, land development status, or whether the land serves public or private purposes.

Lim cited several examples to illustrate the problem, including a 10-year-old low-cost flat where charges rose from RM3,676 to RM22,120, and school land where quit rent allegedly jumped from RM2 to RM8,074.

He challenged Penang chief minister Chow Kow Yeow to disclose how much additional revenue the state expects to collect from the hikes, adding that a citizen-centric government should be standing by its people instead of “Little Napoleons” in the Land Office.

Politics

Former Bersatu member Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has acknowledged Umno’s invitation, but made clear that ex-Bersatu members have their own plans moving forward.

He told Malaysiakini that the group takes into account the leadership of ex-Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, and that they have already declared their support for PAS as the party leading Perikatan Nasional.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal

While grateful for Umno’s outreach, Wan Fayhsal stopped short of shutting the door entirely on potential cooperation, suggesting it was not out of the question.

However, he said any such discussions would need to take place at a higher level, between party leaderships, rather than being settled at this juncture.

Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii yesterday urged Hamzah and his supporters to rejoin Umno, rather than setting up a new political party.

Sports

Youth and Sports Minister Taufiq Johari said the government accepts the ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the seven “heritage” footballers for their “complicit responsibility” in falsifying documents to join the national team.

He said that the episode should be taken as a lesson, but emphasised that it should not derail ongoing efforts to strengthen Malaysian football, the News Straits Times reported.

Meanwhile, Harimau Malaya CEO Robert Douglas Friend expressed disappointment over the ruling, as he claimed that there had been strong grounds for a different outcome to be presented.

Robert Douglas Friend

He stressed that the players had acted with professionalism and integrity throughout the process, adding that the sanctions against the players remain excessive and disproportionate.

This is compared to previous cases, where full suspensions from football activities were not imposed despite their being of similar circumstances.

Politics

Mukhriz Mahathir has ruled out any idea of returning to Umno. In a press conference today, the former Kedah menteri besar said that he will remain in Pejuang, an Umno splinter.

He said that he would not be joining the party even if its president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is no longer leading.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi

“I feel Umno has drifted too far. It is no longer the Umno we once knew. Many of us in Pejuang also came from Umno, then from Bersatu. So we have been filtered twice over.

“Those who remain in Pejuang are the hardcores - hardcore in their struggle. The original spirit of Umno lives on in Pejuang.”

Zahid recently invited previously sacked Umno members to return with no conditions imposed.

Censorship

Activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak’s Facebook account was suspended today. Upon checking, a notice from Facebook stated that the suspension was made in compliance with a legal request from the MCMC to restrict his content.

“Alhamdulillah, my main account has finally been blocked, time for a breather. Just the Ampang district police headquarters to deal with before Rayer now,” Tamim posted, ostensibly referring to DAP MP RSN Rayer, his critic.

Malaysiakini reached out to MCMC for comment but had not received a response by press time.

Last week, Tamim posted two updates on Facebook - one expressing his intent to join PKR and requesting a membership registration form, and another showing his completed online application, which is now pending approval. In a Facebook post yesterday, he said his publicly announced bid to join PKR was nothing more than a joke.

Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak

Following Tamim’s lead, controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth announced his intention to join DAP on March 6. However, he revealed earlier today that the announcement post has been taken down.

Student activism

The Liga Mahasiswa Universiti Malaya student group has claimed that their university is planning to take action against them.

In a statement today, the group described the move as the latest attempt to intimidate the student movement, particularly in relation to students’ efforts to voice their views and organise.

According to a media invitation, Liga Mahasiswa UM alleged that the university intends to sue the group. However, the exact nature of the action could not be confirmed when contacted.

Malaysiakini understands that the matter may be linked to the group’s use of UM’s name, despite allegedly not being a registered society under the university.

Malaysiakini has contacted both parties for comments but has not received confirmation from either by press time.

The student group said it will hold a press conference tomorrow to address the matter and provide further clarification.

Politics

A PKR elected representative has urged the party to reject a membership application from activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak, who has been at the forefront of campaigning against unauthorised temples.

“There is no room for provocateurs in PKR. We do not allow narrow religious and racial sentiments,” Rawang assemblyperson Chua Wei Kiat said in a statement.

“What we have is the spirit of togetherness among human beings based on values of humanity, fairness and diversity,” he added.

Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh confirmed that the party received a membership application from Tamim (above) on March 5 and said it will screen the application as per the usual process.

Tamim was arrested last month after damaging a temple in Rawang in response to Anwar’s call for local authorities to “clean up” places of worship that were erected in violation of the law.

Crime

Police have arrested a second individual to facilitate an investigation into an alleged attack against independent preacher Zamri Vinoth on Saturday.

Penang police chief Azizee Ismail told Malaysiakini that police had picked up the man last night and that they would be seeking to extend the remand today.

Yesterday, a video emerged where several individuals, including two on a motorbike, had approached a car later confirmed to be Zamri’s.

Zamri is then seen fleeing the scene, ramming into the motorcyclists in the process. He later shared photos claiming to be evidence that he was under attack.

Police arrested one suspect yesterday, but he was reportedly released after Zamri did not identify him as among his alleged assailants.

Governance

The government is bringing forward the second round of Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) payments this year, with distribution beginning tomorrow.

Speaking at a Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry assembly today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this is to help recipients with Aidilfitri later this month.

PM Anwar Ibrahim

Anwar also reminded civil servants that their RM500 special aid announced in Budget 2026 will be paid out on March 15.

On flight subsidies for students to fly between the peninsula and East Malaysia during festive seasons, Anwar reiterated that aid has been extended to the National Arts, Culture, and Heritage Academy, semi-government universities, state-run public varsities, the Manpower Department Training Institute, and the Plantations and Commodities Institute.

The Transport Ministry had announced the expansion in January.

Anwar has ordered the Public Service Department to look into promotion pathways for Grade 1 civil servants - the lowest-ranked in public service - which numbers 125,000 individuals.

The prime minister said it was crucial to ensure that those at the bottom have the means to work their way up and have career development, taking into consideration the duration of service as well as upskilling courses.

Court

The Court of Appeal overturned a High Court ruling which required the government to adjust the pensions of retired civil servants to match rates set in 2016, a move that would have cost Putrajaya RM1.7 billion in arrears to some 531,000 pensioners.

The bench unanimously found that the suit filed by 57 pensioners was a matter that the courts already decided on four years ago - in reference to a 2022 ruling that declared a 2 percent flat annual increment rate for pensions set in 2013 as unconstitutional, Free Malaysia Today reported.

Environment

Environmental group RimbaWatch has warned that oil and gas prospecting close to the Tun Sakaran Park in Semporna, Sabah risks significant ecological and socioeconomic impact.

The marine park is located within the Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion (SSME), which is a globally recognised site of outstanding biodiversity, the group explained in a statement today. It further noted the presence of communities near the park, who mainly rely on marine resources for their livelihoods.

The group called on oil and gas operators - a consortium of which was awarded an exploration block near the park last year - to end activities near the SSME.

RimbaWatch also urged the state government to strengthen the Sabah Parks Enactment 1984 to protect marine and coastal environments from harmful activities, and for Putrajaya to join growing calls for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Foreign policy

Malaysia will support any credible efforts to negotiate an end to hostilities between the US, Israel and Iran as the conflict continues to spill into more neighbouring countries.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also urged the international community to act with urgency before more nations get dragged into the conflict and more lives are lost.

“Energy facilities, water installations and other infrastructure (in countries neighbouring Iran) that millions depend on for daily life have been hit. The world’s oil and shipping routes run through these waters.

“Disruption here carries consequences far beyond the region,” he said on Facebook today.

Politics

Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii has urged opposition chief Hamzah Zainudin and his supporters to return to the party instead of setting up a new one and further dividing Malays.

Umno leader Razlan Rafii

"If we were to set up another Malay-based entity or party, it would not help unite the Malays... it just won't happen. Our objective in setting up the idea of 'Rumah Bangsa' is to invite as many as possible out there to come under Umno's umbrella.

"Not only Hamzah and the gang, others who are with smaller parties out there should also disband their parties and return to Umno, no problem," he told reporters after a breaking fast event in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The call came as rumours were abuzz that Hamzah, who was recently sacked from Bersatu following an internal power struggle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin, was planning to either establish or join another political platform.

PUTRAJAYA, March 10 — The National Unity Ministry is taking seriously three recent incidents that have the potential to disrupt harmony in the country and urged authorities to take decisive action against those responsible.

“In this regard, I urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take stern action against any parties involved, in accordance with existing legal provisions,” said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

In a statement today, he said any form of violence, religious provocation, hatred, or extremist actions that touch on racial and religious sensitivities is completely unacceptable in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country like Malaysia.

Aaron was referring to the torching of a vehicle belonging to community activist Cikgu Chandra, a viral video showing a man stepping on and damaging the sacred Hindu symbol, the Trisul, and an attack on independent preacher Zamri Vinoth.

He said Malaysia was built on the foundation of unity, mutual respect and understanding between religions and cultures, values that must continue to be upheld by all layers of society.

“I urge all citizens not to act emotionally, not to spread speculation, and always exercise prudence when reacting to sensitive issues, especially on social media. Any differences in opinion should be addressed through the proper channels and within the framework of the law,” he added. — Bernama

Muhyiddin’s trial: Banker confirms RM19.3m went into Bersatu’s CIMB account, says red flags triggered suspicious transaction report

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 — A total of RM19.3 million in 28 cheques was deposited into Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s CIMB account from August 2021 to November 2022, a banker confirmed in former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s trial today.

Menara CIMB KL Sentral bank branch manager Lee Hui Nee, 58, was testifying as the second prosecution witness in Muhyiddin’s corruption and money laundering trial at the High Court.

Lee today verified all the RM19.3 million cheque deposits, based on the cheques and Bersatu’s CIMB bank statements.

Out of the 28 cheques to Bersatu, four of them were CIMB cheques from Azman Yusoff totalling RM4 million, while Mamfor Sdn Bhd issued a Bank Muamalat cheque dated September 10, 2021 for RM1 million.

In this trial, Muhyiddin has been accused of abusing his power as the prime minister then and as Bersatu president to obtain bribes totalling RM225.3 million from three companies and one individual (Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, Mamfor Sdn Bhd and Azman Yusoff) for his “associate”, namely his party Bersatu.

The prosecution is also seeking to prove that Muhyiddin committed money laundering by receiving illegal funds totalling RM120 million and RM75 million deposited into Bersatu’s CIMB account, and RM5 million deposited into Bersatu’s AmBank account.

Asked by deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin on whether she remembered the rough total of money which entered Bersatu’s CIMB account, Lee said it was in the “tens of millions” and confirmed that these funds had all been deposited after December 1, 2020.

Asked if CIMB had submitted suspicious transaction reports (STR) when tens of millions entered Bersatu’s account, Lee initially said she could not confirm this as STRs are confidential information that cannot be shared.

Wan Shaharuddin then said everyone including the court and Muhyiddin would want to know and urged her to disclose for fairness purposes, with Lee then replying: “For transactions that are unusual, very large amount, STRs will be raised.”

When Wan Shaharuddin asked if STRs were issued specifically in this case involving Bersatu, Lee confirmed there were such STRs but did not specify when or how many STRs were made.

Later when asked by deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Jumaat on why she had filed an STR on Bersatu’s account, Lee said the bank’s system would show “red flags” if there are accounts with a high volume of transactions that are inconsistent with the account’s profile, and that the branch would then review the account and file an STR to CIMB’s headquarters.

Confirming that her branch did make STRs to CIMB’s headquarters, she said the branch does not have knowledge of what happened next as STRs are confidential matters that would be dealt with between CIMB’s headquarters and Bank Negara Malaysia.

Typically, CIMB's headquarters would submit STRs to Bank Negara Malaysia.

Mahadi then asked why she felt the deposits of money were inconsistent with Bersatu’s account profile, with Lee then saying “because the frequency and amount is very high”.

Later when asked by Muhyiddin’s lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, Lee confirmed she would not know how many STRs had been issued by her bank branch to CIMB headquarters on Bersatu’s account before she joined this branch in 2022.

But Lee confirmed to Amer that she personally knows whether there is any STR prepared by CIMB against Bersatu on its bank account “because we have our own branch record”.

Lee agreed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) did not ask her about any STRs or ask her to show any STR against Bersatu during its investigation and when it recorded her statement, also confirming that today was the first time the prosecution had asked her about the STRs.

She agreed she cannot confirm if Bank Negara Malaysia had taken any action or decided there was no issue with Bersatu’s CIMB account, reiterating that STRs are dealt between CIMB’s headquarters and the central bank.

Confirming that a bank could be penalised for not raising STRs to BNM, Lee agreed with Amer that a bank would raise an STR when there is a huge amount coming into a bank account out of an “abundance of caution”.

She agreed with Amer’s suggestion that STRs could sometimes be issued because of the sum involved and not necessarily because something is illegal.

When Amer suggested that the fact that a bank branch issued an STR to the bank’s headquarters does not automatically mean there is something unlawful, Lee said she could not answer this, as it would be BNM that ultimately decides if there is any illegal transaction.

“Because the word is ‘suspicious’, so we cannot say right or wrong,” she said, later adding: “The ultimate decision is Bank Negara.”

Agreeing that she had not been shown any report from BNM to suggest any of the RM19.3 million transactions to Bersatu’s accounts were illegal, Lee also agreed with Amer’s suggestion that it should not simply be concluded that all these transactions are unlawful.

Menara CIMB KL Sentral bank branch manager Lee Hui Nee. — Picture by Sayuti Zainudin

Among other things, Lee told Mahadi that Bersatu opened its account at her branch on September 9, 2016, with the account opening form recording Bersatu’s nature of business as “political party” and its source of funds as “investor”.

“If based on this application, the nature of business is political party; the source of fund actually should be political party’s funds,” she said, adding that Bersatu’s account opening form did not declare the source of investment.

She had pointed out that a company which opens a bank account would typically state “business income” as its source of funds.

While Amer had suggested that the word “investor” could have been suggested by the CIMB bank officer who handled Bersatu’s account opening, Lee later said she disagreed as there is no proof that a bank officer had suggested this.

She told Mahadi that it is the bank customer who has to fill up the account opening form and the customer would have to declare the details in the form, adding that a CIMB officer could not make such suggestions as it is against the bank’s process and procedure.

Having confirmed that Muhyiddin was not the sole signatory of Bersatu’s CIMB bank account, Lee told Muhyiddin’s lawyer Chetan Jethwani that the Bersatu president is not the “sole controller” of this account in terms of moving money out.

But Lee later told Mahadi that there is no need for approval by Bersatu’s account’s signatories for the deposits of money into the account.

Muhyiddin’s trial before High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdi resumes tomorrow, with Lee expected to continue testifying.

TMJ claims insiders trying to make him scapegoat over national team saga

PETALING JAYA, March 11 — Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has accused certain individuals within the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) of attempting to use him as a scapegoat, alleging their dissatisfaction stems from being unable to profit through him.

“Some people within FAM have been dissatisfied with me for a long time because they cannot make money through me,” he said on his social media pages.

“Some came asking for my help to secure projects, while others asked for assistance to avoid being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), among other matters.”

The regent added that discontent grew after the federal government, under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, channelled funding to the national team, with certain parties unhappy at being excluded from managing the resources.

“Many were disappointed when the government provided funding for the national team because they were not involved,” he said, adding that there were moves to undermine his position.

Addressing the ongoing FIFA case, Tunku Ismail clarified that the matter involved alleged document forgery rather than citizenship eligibility.

“This is a case of forgery and document submission, not citizenship eligibility,” he said.😲😲😲

He also questioned why proper documentation from the National Registration Department (JPN) was not submitted, suggesting the player was blamed while insiders were protected.

“Who made the wrong submission? The agent — and who else within FAM? Why wasn’t a legitimate document from the National Registration Department submitted? Because they wanted to protect ‘insiders’, the player was blamed,” he said.

During proceedings at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), he noted, FIFA could not provide evidence linking the players to the alleged wrongdoing.

“During the CAS hearing, FIFA could not even answer when asked for evidence of the players’ involvement or complicity,” he said.

Tunku Ismail highlighted a precedent involving a female player who admitted forgery and received only a 10-match suspension for the national team while remaining eligible to play for her club. “

The insiders should be held responsible. Do not wash your hands of this and use supporters and the media to make me the scapegoat,” he said.

He also raised concerns over administrative interference in the national team, citing complaints from head coach Peter Cklamovski, who observed that some individuals within FAM did not want the team to succeed.

“In the first week itself, he told me: ‘I can feel that some of these people don’t want us here,’” Tunku Ismail said.

He added that he advised the coach to focus on football and avoid internal politics.

Iran vows to keep fighting as Trump predicts quick end to Gulf conflict

TEHRAN, March 10 — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said today his country would keep fighting as long as necessary, casting doubt on US President Donald Trump’s insistence that the conflict would be over “soon.”

The remarks from one of Iran’s top leaders, who also ruled out negotiations with Washington, came as Tehran launched a new wave of attacks on US-allied Gulf nations hours after Trump’s assurances of a swift end to the rapidly widening conflict.

Trump’s comments helped reverse the stock market slumps and oil price jumps of a day earlier, with markets in Tokyo and Seoul opening strongly, and oil prices down as much as five percent, a day after benchmark crude rocketed past US$100 a barrel.

“It’s going to be ended soon, and if it starts up again they’ll be hit even harder,” Trump told a news conference in Florida yesterday, after telling lawmakers that the campaign would be a “short-term excursion.”

“We’ve already won in many ways, but we haven’t won enough,” Trump said.

He threatened an attack of “incalculable” size if Tehran blocks oil supplies.

“We will hit them so hard that it will not be possible for them or anybody else helping them to ever recover that section of the world, if they do anything.”

However, in an interview Araghchi told PBS News “the firings continues, and we are prepared. We are well prepared to continue attacking them with our missiles as long as needed and as long as it takes.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also responded to Trump that they would “determine the end of the war”.

And Araghchi effectively ruled out negotiations with Washington, saying Tehran had “a very bitter experience of talking with Americans.”

Recalling previous US attacks during earlier negotiations, he said: “I don’t think talking with Americans anymore would be on our agenda.”

Some oil sanctions waived

Early yesterday, Iranian attacks again targeted Gulf nations.

The United Arab Emirates said it was “currently responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran,” while in Bahrain citizens were told to take shelter as sirens sounded.

Both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait also said they had intercepted and destroyed drones.

In Iran, local media reported fresh attacks in the capital and Khomein, and Israel said it had struck an Iranian missile launcher shortly after an Iranian barrage that triggered warnings in several parts of Israel.

The ongoing fire laid bare the uncertainty that has roiled markets globally, prompting fuel shortages and raising the spectre of inflation.

In a bid to calm prices, Trump announced he would waive some sanctions on oil, following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Iran has targeted vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20 per cent of the world’s crude oil usually transits.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday his country and its allies were working on a “purely defensive” mission to reopen the strait, aiming to escort ships “after the end of the hottest phase of the conflict”.

But it was far from clear when that might come.

Iran’s new supreme leader is hardliner Mojtaba Khamenei, who replaces his father who was killed in the first day of US-Israeli strikes. Trump has called Khamenei a “lightweight” and said he should be involved in choosing Iran’s leader.

The appointment was welcomed by some in Iran however, with state media carrying images of tens of thousands of people celebrating in central Tehran on Monday, many carrying the new leader’s picture.

Just a bit of bread

The war has spiralled far beyond Iran’s borders, dragging in not only its Gulf neighbours but also Lebanon, where Israel carried out fresh strikes on Tuesday.

Lebanese authorities said Monday that Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed at least 486 people and wounded at least 1,313.

AFP has not been able to carry out a detailed breakdown of the figures.

Lebanon was drawn into the Middle East war when Iran-backed Hezbollah attacked Israel after the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has accused Hezbollah of working to “collapse” the state, while the head of the group’s parliamentary bloc said it had “no other option... than the option of resistance.”

Syria too criticised the group, saying it had fired artillery shells into its territory from Lebanon overnight, and warning its army “will not tolerate any aggression.”

Israeli strikes and ground incursions have pushed hundreds of thousands of Lebanese from their homes, with more than 660,000 registered as displaced, according to government figures.

Among them is Zainab El Masry, 40, who was sleeping with her husband and children on the grimy pavement of a Beirut square.

“We have nothing to eat or drink, just a bit of bread,” she told AFP.

The conflict comes as Muslims mark the fasting month of Ramadan, and in Iran residents said they were grappling with the war and its impact on prices.

“What amazes me the most is that people insist on sitting out on the terrace to watch the bombardments, as if it were a show,” said cafe manager Reza, 36, in the northeastern city of Boukan.

“The real problem is money: banks no longer distribute cash and many bank cards are blocked,” he said.

“So in my cafe, I made a simple decision: for those who can’t pay for their coffee, it’s on the house.” — AFP

On Donald Trumps unhinged press conference

A quick summary of Donald Trump’s bizarre sometimes maniacal press conference from Mar a Lago.

As he now frequently does my 18 year old son Zein asked the best question: is he delusional or is he lying. It’s both obviously.

He was lying when he suggested that Iran may have somehow “bought” a Tomahawk missile and fired it at their own school massacring 167 of their own schoolchildren in the first hour of the war (and presumably another to double-tap their desperate parents, teachers, and frantic emergency workers)
In fact this may be the most vile despicable lie an American president has ever uttered in public. And that’s saying something.

It is certainly the most consequential lie because it will define what is left of his presidency.

But he must have delusional to repeatedly declare the Iranian forces as essentially disarmed, with no ships no air defence no missiles no launchers.

Because he knows we know that for three nights running Iran has been smashing Israeli cities left essentially undefended by virtually useless Iron Dome interceptors causing thousands of casualties many of them high-value personnel and destroying hundreds of often very consequential buildings and institutions.

He knows we know that he has just evacuated ALL US bases in the Persian Gulf because their retreat under fire is on our screens.

Thus his Arab allies (whom he dumped right in it by publicly stating how engaged they have been in his war while they are lying to their public that they are not) are now completely without US military presence on their land and at Iran’s mercy.

He is delusional surely in his statements that he is going to control the Straits of Hormuz. Any American ships in the Straits will be immediately destroyed by anti-ship missiles in fact several just have been.

If he lands the 82nd Airborne on the strategic island of Kharg in the Straits the Iranians will destroy the island, sink it, oil installations, US occupiers and all.

Blocking the Straits for good and creating an environmental catastrophe which will poison the entire Gulf Waters for years to come.

Does he think Iran is thinking about future oil revenues at this point?

This is an existential question for Iran now: to be or not to be?

Even British Intelligence sources are saying that idea is “terrifyingly nuts”.

But he was straight out lying, again consequentially so, when he quoted Vladimir Putin as being “very impressed” at Trump’s worst war leader in history performance! In fact the US-Israel attack on Iran is the most disastrous military-political blunder since Operation Barbarossa, Hitler’s invasion of the USSR.

And what can we say about his statement that he was doing all this: “For China”!!! And “honoured to do so”!

China is EXEMPT for Iranian measures, its tankers are passing freely through the Straits. The only country named as being so. Ditto Chinese shipping in the Red Sea courtesy of the Yemen authorities- Ansarallah.
Was that a lie or a delusion? I don’t know son, your guess is as good as mine.

More much more on Wednesday on the Mother of all Talkshows.

Hamzah says 'no' to Umno, pledges to assist PN

Sacked Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has indicated that he will proceed with plans to be a part of a new political entity, rather than accept an invitation to return to Umno.

While still coy on his exact plans, the parliamentary opposition leader last night hosted a breaking fast gathering attended by all Perikatan Nasional component party leaders and others, including Berjasa president Zamani Ibrahim, Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, and Parti Keluarga Malaysia founder Khairi Jaya.

Apart from Gerakan president Dominic Lau and Malaysian Indian People's Party president P Punithan, also seated at the main table with Hamzah was MIC president SA Vigneswaran, whose party was previously speculated to exit BN and join PN.

PAS was represented by its central committee member, Pendang MP Awang Hashim.

Met by reporters later, Hamzah (above) said the gathering was held to strengthen ties.

“Strengthening these ties creates the feeling that I do not disregard any party, including Umno.

“But if the question is whether I will join Umno, no. As you can see just now, many parties are with me. So I will see how things develop for the future of the people.

“There is no need to join (Umno),” said Hamzah when quizzed on Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s remarks that all former members are welcome to rejoin the party under his “Rumah Bangsa” vision.

Before joining Bersatu, Hamzah was among Umno lawmakers who declared a loss of confidence in Zahid’s leadership and quit the party on Dec 14, 2018.

‘100pct support to PN’

On whether MIC still intended to join PN, Hamzah said the question should be posed to Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as the coalition’s new chairperson.

“I am not affiliated with any party, so if you ask about that, I don’t know.

“What I can say is that I give my 100 percent support to PN,” he stressed.

Previously, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly said he would block any attempts by Hamzah’s new party to join PN, as he accused the Larut MP of being “untrustworthy”.

Since his sacking, Hamzah has largely remained silent on his next political move, but last week he reportedly hinted at a potential takeover of the yet-to-be-registered Parti Keluarga Malaysia.

The purported takeover was revealed after Berita Harian reported its founder as claiming that the move is “almost 90 percent certain” based on recent discussions with Hamzah and Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

Hamzah said the discussions require detailed consideration.

“I don’t want anything to be left out. That’s why we are taking time. For example, when they formed the party, perhaps they wanted to do it quickly.

“So I feel there are several things that do not align with my nature. That is why I need time,” he said.

“I think there will be enough time. As soon as possible. That means maybe after Raya, before Raya - it depends,” he added when quizzed on preparations to face looming elections, including registering a new political party.

‘Just sack them’

Last night’s function held at an event hall in Putrajaya also saw the attendance of a line-up of sacked Bersatu leaders and lawmakers, and those awaiting disciplinary actions, including Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee and Bersatu Women chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

Hamzah, in a swipe at Bersatu leaders aligned with Muhyiddin, said they should just proceed with sacking his supporters so that they could move on.

Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali and Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz had previously insisted that the party divisions remain intact despite mass resignations, and new office bearers will replace those who left.

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern criticized President Donald Trump’s foreign policy on Saturday, saying the president “thinks he’s Napoleon” and warning of expanding conflicts from Venezuela to Iran, and potentially Cuba.

In a post on X, McGovern said the moves are “not about freedom or human rights,” but about rewarding wealthy donors and political allies.

Russia ready to supply energy to Europe if it asks, says Putin

Oil prices have skyrocketed over the Iran war, trading above US$100 this week for the first time since Russia launched its Ukraine offensive in 2022

MOSCOW: Russia would supply oil and gas to European buyers, provided such co-operation was “long-term” and did not put political pressure on Moscow, president Vladimir Putin said Monday.

Oil prices have skyrocketed since the US and Israel began striking Iran on Feb 28, trading above US$100 this week for the first time since Russia launched its Ukraine offensive in 2022.

In a televised meeting, Putin said Moscow would continue to supply oil to “reliable” partners in Asia, as well as EU members Hungary and Slovakia.

“If European companies and European buyers suddenly decide to reorient themselves and provide us with long-term, sustainable cooperation, devoid of political pressures, free from political pressures, then go ahead. We’ve never refused,” Putin said.

“We’re ready to work with Europeans, but we need some signals from them that they’re ready and willing to work with us and will ensure this sustainability and stability,” he added.

The EU banned maritime imports of Russian crude in 2022, while Russia’s pipeline exports to Hungary and Slovakia have been effectively halted since January due to damage to the Druzhba oil pipeline via Ukraine.

Putin’s comments came hours after Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban urged the European Union to suspend sanctions on Russian oil and gas to counter prices sent soaring by the war in the Middle East.

GOLD COAST:
Australia has granted asylum to some of Iran’s visiting women’s football team over fears they faced persecution at home for not singing the national anthem before a match, home affairs minister Tony Burke said on Tuesday.

Iranian players’ gesture ahead of an Asian Cup tournament match in Australia last week was widely seen as an act of defiance against the Islamic republic.

Five players escaped the team hotel on Australia’s Gold Coast overnight, holing up in a “safe location” while lodging their claims for asylum, Burke said.

“They were moved to a safe location by Australian police. I signed off last night on their applications for humanitarian visas,” he told reporters.

“They are welcome to stay in Australia, and they are safe here, and should feel at home here.”

US President Donald Trump earlier said he had spoken with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to confirm the women were safe.

“I just spoke to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, of Australia, concerning the Iranian National Women’s Soccer Team. He’s on it! Five have already been taken care of,” Trump said Monday on his Truth Social network, less than two hours after an initial post urging Australia to take them in.

Trump added that “some, however, feel they must go back because they are worried about the safety of their families, including threats to those family members if they don’t return.”

The Australian broadcaster ABC reported that five players evaded the team’s handlers at their accommodation in the Gold Coast.

Asked about their case on Sunday, foreign minister Penny Wong said Australia “stands in solidarity” with the people of Iran.

The son of Iran’s late shah, US-based Reza Pahlavi, warned on Monday that the refusal to sing the anthem could have “dire consequences”, and urged Australia to offer the team protection.

Pahlavi, who has not returned to Iran since before the 1979 Islamic revolution that ousted the monarchy, has billed himself as the man to lead a democratic transition to a secular Iran as the theocratic regime fights to survive.

Politicians, human rights activists and even “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling have also called for the team to be offered official protection.

“Please, protect these young women,” Rowling said in a post on social media.

‘Save our girls’

A presenter on Iranian state TV had branded the players “wartime traitors” after they stood motionless during the anthem before their match against South Korea.

In subsequent games, the players saluted and sang.

Crowds gathered outside the Gold Coast stadium where the side played their last match over the weekend, banging drums and shouting “regime change for Iran”.

They then surrounded the Iranian team bus, chanting “let them go” and “save our girls”.

On Monday, an AFP journalist saw members of the team speaking on phones from their hotel room balconies.

Asked about the possibility of asylum, a spokesperson for Australia’s home affairs department told AFP earlier it “cannot comment on the circumstances of individuals”.

Amnesty International campaigner Zaki Haidari said the women faced persecution, or worse, if they were sent home.

“Some of these team members probably have had their families already threatened,” Haidari told AFP.

“Them going back… who knows what sort of punishment they will receive?”

Iran’s embassy in Australia did not respond to a request for comment.
