PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man says every party has its own way of settling internal disputes

Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan said secretary-general Azmin Ali is unfit to lead the party as long as the controversy surrounding a 2019 video, allegedly of the former minister engaging in homosexual acts, remains unresolved.

PETALING JAYA: PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has expressed hope that Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties can resolve their disputes internally after Bersatu’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan publicly attacked the party’s secretary-general, Azmin Ali.

“Every political party has its own mechanism to address such matters,” Tuan Ibrahim told FMT.

At a press conference yesterday, Wan Saiful said Azmin was unfit to lead Bersatu as long as the controversy surrounding a 2019 video, purportedly of the former minister engaging in homosexual acts, remained unresolved.

The clip allegedly showed Azmin with another man at a hotel in Sandakan. Haziq Aziz, the Santubong PKR Youth chief at the time, subsequently released a video confession naming himself and Azmin as the two men in the clip.

Azmin, who was then the economic affairs minister and PKR deputy president, denied the allegation, calling it a plot to end his political career.

CyberSecurity Malaysia later concluded that the clip was authentic, but said facial recognition of the individuals involved could not be achieved due to the poor resolution of the recording.

The recording was also sent to forensic experts in the US, who confirmed the findings.

PAS election director Sanusi Nor declined to comment, saying: “We don’t want to interfere in their (Bersatu) affairs.”

PAS Youth information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar struck a similar note, saying the Islamic party did not teach its members to meddle in other parties’ affairs.

He said PN’s focus should remain on addressing public concerns.

“PN will continue to be strengthened regardless of internal disputes or external pressures faced by its component parties. The people’s issues come first,” he said.
