PETALING JAYA: PAS has lashed out at the Pinkfish Express dance festival recently held on a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) train for “immoral activity”.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari expressed the “rakyat’s grief and disappointment” at the dance party, billed as the first festival train in Southeast Asia, which he said ran against “eastern culture which upholds good manners, modesty and moderate entertainment”.

“The culture of entertainment that goes overboard, as seen at the festival on May 16, does not reflect the Rukun Negara and sullies the name of KTMB, which is a historic national asset.

“Whatever excuse is used to justify the programme, such as the generation of money, it remains unacceptable and goes against the philosophy of Malaysia Madani spearheaded by Prime Minister and finance minister Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

Fadhli said as KTMB is a GLC under the finance ministry, the ministry must investigate how such a programme “normalising immorality” could have been approved.

He said although entertainment is not wrong, Malaysians as a diverse community must uphold KTMB’s image as well as the practice of “moderate entertainment culture that is not ‘scooped’ from Western countries”.

“Islam provides comprehensive guidelines to fulfil the desires of people who seek entertainment. Moderation in entertainment is the key to progress,” he said.

According to Hitz FM, the party took place on a train travelling around Kuala Lumpur.

Photos and videos on Pinkfish’s social media platforms show partygoers dancing in the train while DJs perform.

Malaysiakini reported that alcohol was not allowed on the train as per KTMB’s guidelines for chartered trains.

FMT has contacted KTMB for comment.

  3. It was a commercial charter train , usually the operator KTMB would have a signed contract stipulating the governing rules, especially on safety and protection of property. .

As long as whatever terms KTMB placed on the charter were adhered to PISS should not Interfere.
