Family reunion rules relaxed as NSC updates CNY SOP yet again
The National Security Council (NSC) updated its Chinese New Year standard operating procedure (SOP) under the movement control order (MCO) again, this time relaxing some rules including on family reunion.
The National Unity Ministry, in a statement today, said the NSC has agreed to allow reunion dinners at home involving family members from different households on Chinese New Year eve (Feb 11).
However, it said the visiting family members must live within a 10km radius of the reunion venue and must not cross state or district borders.
Previously, the NSC said the Chinese New Year family reunion is only limited to members of the same household.
The National Unity Ministry said the NSC had also agreed to prayer activities at places of worship on Feb 11, Feb 12 and Feb 19, subject to strict SOPs.

ReplyDeleteThe original decision to restrict the CNY "Reunion Dinner" to same households only was the correct one.
There are Many people with Asymptomatic Covid-19 infections. There is a need to protect the most vulnerable group, the elderly above 70s.
For many over 70s, getting Covid-19 is like a death sentence.
Almost any Reunion Dinner will involve elderly parents and relatives.
We can always have a big free open Reunion Dinner next year, after the Malaysian Population has been inoculated with safe, effective Covid-19 vaccines to achieve herd immunity.
Nothing wrong with an annual gathering like reunion dinner to reinforce family coherency.

Just look at how many people mingle within the popular streetfares of Wuhan, Shanghai & Shenzhen. Ain't they the worst of disease transmissivity than reunion dinner where the persons coming into contact r know family members?
Politikus r using easy excuses, especially the harebrained one & blurred moronic social champions r in chorus for not doing their RIGHT role in preventing the spread of covid pandemic.
