PUTRAJAYA, Oct 5 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today demanded that MYEG and Zetrix AI Berhad immediately settle RM314 million in outstanding government revenue, saying the money collected does not belong to the companies.
He said the outstanding amount involved revenue collected by My E.G. Sdn Bhd (MYEG) and Zetrix AI Berhad, formerly known as My E.G. Services Berhad, that had yet to be transferred to the Ministry of Transport’s Main Revenue Account.
“The deadline is immediately,” he told a press conference at the ministry here when asked when the companies were required to settle the outstanding amount.
Loke said the RM314 million in arrears had accumulated since May this year, rejecting reports that the amount had been outstanding for three years.
“Three years is not accurate. These arrears started in May this year, just a few months ago.
“Before May, there had been arrears from time to time. After we issued reminder notices, they would pay the outstanding amount.
“But the RM314 million in unpaid arrears has been outstanding since May this year, just a few months ago, not three years,” he said.
Loke said the ministry and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had held four engagement sessions since May with relevant stakeholders, including the Finance Ministry, and issued 35 reminder notices to the companies.
He said the companies had, on August 21, submitted a cheque dated September 30 for RM231 million to settle the arrears at that time.
However, the bank did not process the cheque when it was presented on September 30, following instructions from the company, he said.
As a result, MOT and JPJ suspended payment services through MYEG and Zetrix AI from today.
Loke said the suspension would remain until the companies paid the entire outstanding amount, after which the government would consider whether to resume the services.
“There should not be any reason. They are supposed to collect the payments and then pay the money, so they have to pay it.
“We have repeatedly given them many opportunities. We have issued numerous reminder notices and held several meetings over the past few months.
“They are merely collection agents. The money does not belong to them; it all belongs to the people who made the payments,” he said.
He added that MOT and JPJ would take appropriate legal action to recover the full amount of outstanding government revenue from MYEG.
Loke said the suspension would not affect the delivery of JPJ services, as the public could continue to make payments through alternative channels, including the MyJPJ application, JPJ Public Portal, counters and kiosks.
He said JPJ would also provide Mobile JPJ Counters at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar in Johor from 8am to 10pm for summons payments involving non-Malaysians at the Malaysia-Singapore border entry points.
For the KPP01 Theory Test, Loke said candidates could use 85 approved driving institutes authorised to conduct computerised tests.
