No need for state-level recovery councils, Najib tells Muhyiddin
THIS is not the time to establish create more positions and committees as the general election may be called anytime soon, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Is it a priority for us now to appoint a deputy prime minister, new ministers and create more committees?
“Besides, the general election is just around the corner, perhaps in a year’s time,” he said, in a Facebook post.
Najib was responding to National Recovery Council (NRC) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s call yesterday for the Government to form state-level recovery councils to rejuvenate the economy.
The Pagoh MP added that the Cabinet had agreed to the proposal last year but was delayed for unspecified reasons.
Hurling brickbats at Muhyiddin, Najib alleged that the former was insisting on the matter so that he could give his party members positions to keep them away from defecting.
“I hope the Government will not entertain his demands. Let us focus on the economic recovery and managing inflation instead of setting up more committees,” the Pekan MP remarked. — July 3, 2022
