By CS Ming
Three police officers have been detained to assist in the investigation of a jewelry theft case believed to involve a woman who was found dead in a car parked at a condominium in Setapak on October 1.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa stated that the arrests were made following a report from a local man.
“Following the investigation, the police arrested four officers in the Setapak area of Kuala Lumpur. The arrests involved officers ranging from constable to corporal, aged between 28 and 35 years,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the police also seized a receipt and a piece of yellowish metal estimated to weigh 11.52 grams.
The news which was reported by Buletin TV3 received widespread condemnation from netizens.
“It’s the same with ambulance or hospital staff. Actually, no matter what job it is, we need honest people. That’s it. If someone has died, return the valuables to the deceased’s heirs. If someone has recovered from illness, return their belongings after they are discharged. Simple,” said Wild Orchid.
Another netizen advised to stop recruiting Mat Rempit as police officers.

DhiyaNadia said hopefully this will not become a case of “being transferred.”
One netizen said this is a classic example of treachery by the people who were supposed to protect.
“Imagine a trusted officer acting as a thief in uniform rummaging through the private property owned by a person who is already dead,” said Jaywalker.
Earlier, media reports indicated that a 59-year-old former senior police officer filed a report at the Setapak Police Station on October 8 after discovering that the jewelry worn by his daughter at the time of her death was missing.
He claimed that after his 26-year-old daughter’s body was buried in Banting, Selangor, he attempted to search for a necklace, locket, and gold bracelet given by the victim’s grandmother and sister.
However, he was informed by the hospital and police that his daughter was not wearing any jewelry when she was found in the vehicle.
A search of the victim’s rental home also yielded no jewelry, prompting the father to refer the matter to the fire department, which broke the locked car window.
Based on photos from the fire department, there were a necklace and gold bracelet that the victim had been wearing before her body was handed over to the police for further action. – Nov 3, 2024
