KUALA LUMPUR
Police have launched an investigation into a viral video of a group of people lowering the Jalur Gemilang from a flag pole and replacing it with the Sabah and Kingdom of Sarawak flags.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said 35 police reports have been lodged over the video, with 34 filed in Sabah and one in Kuala Lumpur.

“We believe that this incident took place on Sept 16. The video was uploaded on Sept 20.

The (Bukit Aman) criminal investigation department found that the video was recorded by a Sabahan, who has a criminal record,
 he said at a press conference here today.

Razarudin added that the suspect was charged for an unrelated offence in Kota Kinabalu before this. The case will be brought up in court on Nov 18 for mention.

The viral video showed a group of people putting up a makeshift flagpole with the Jalur Gemilang and lowering it. They then replaced it with the Sabah flag, followed by the Kingdom of Sarawak flag, which was flown from 1946 to 1973.

According to Sinar Harian, the incident took place in front of the Parliament of Victoria building in Melbourne, Australia.
