FMT:

I was never Aman Palestin’s adviser, says Mukhriz

The Pejuang president says he has no links with the embattled organisation whatsoever.

Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir’s denial comes after an old posting by the NGO resurfaced on social media.

PETALING JAYA: Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir denies ever being Aman Palestin’s adviser, insisting he has no links with the organisation whatsoever.

His denial comes in the wake of an old social media posting that resurfaced, prompting questions over Mukhriz’s links with the group. The posting had congratulated “Datuk Mukhriz”, said to be the group’s adviser, for receiving a Kedah state honour.

“I am not their adviser and have asked AP (Aman Palestin) to remove their posting,” he told FMT. “I was never their adviser.”

Aman Palestin is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the alleged misappropriation of RM70 million by the group.

Last week, MACC froze 41 bank accounts, collectively holding RM15.8 million, associated with Aman Palestin and various companies.

On Monday, Aman Palestin’s lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali demanded MACC unfreeze the bank accounts within three days or face legal action.

Mukhriz’s father, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, had also urged MACC to allow Aman Palestin to deliver winter aid to war-torn countries in the Middle East, while the investigation is going on.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki brushed these off and said the accounts would remain frozen and no funds would be released until the investigation is completed.
