Loke slams PM for flip-flopping on early GE15

Loke Siew Fook says Ismail Sabri Yaakob needs to be firm as the prime minister and not be influenced by those ‘only worried about their political survival’.

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has slammed Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for his “inconsistent” stance on whether the general election (GE15) will be held soon.

Taking to Facebook, Loke noted that Ismail had, on Monday, been quoted by Nikkei Asia as saying that GE15 would not be held soon, but yesterday had told the Barisan Nasional (BN) convention that he would not “delay dissolving Parliament for even one second” once he felt BN was ready.

“In a matter of 48 hours, he changed his tune. He needs to be firmer and more consistent in his stance as the prime minister, and more accountable for his statements,” Loke said.

He reminded Ismail that the decision to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament was in his hands as the prime minister, and such a decision should not be left to the influence of those around him who are “only worried about their political survival”.

“If he really wants to address the inflation instead of calling for an election in the near future, then he needs to find consensus across parties so that the focus can be on helping the people,” he said.

Loke stressed that DAP was not worried of an election being held any time soon, but claimed that “flip-flopping” on the GE15 would only cause continued political instability and further harm the economic situation of the country.

“We are ready. The crux of the issue is that the prime minister needs to be firmer in his stance,” he said.

  1. To be or Not To Be....
Frankly, with Worldwide food, energy, inflationary and financial crises ongoing , this is an utterly irresponsible moment to be focusing energies on Snap elections.

The recent Australian elections were due per schedule, so the timing did not attract any unwarranted criticism, but Malaysia going to the polls now would be a purely politicised, opportunistic decision, not forced by Constitutional requirement.

This government can still properly run its course to May 2023.

  2. Election can run after the end of the constitutional term IFF the country's well-being is been sustained.

But when a country is been ruined by an incompetent administration, then allowing the administration to run its course as dictated under the election rules is a sure receipt for a national disaster.

The next incoming govt will have to pick up from all the ruins, sopo-economically.

Money lost. Time wasted. Opportunity missed.

More so during a world that's running towards a predicated sopo-economic chaos!

Totally irresponsible & another leak of a know-nothing fart!
