AYER KEROH: Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin believes that Gerakan can win over Chinese voters in the Melaka polls, describing the community as being “very pragmatic”.
The former prime minister also said there was a strong wind of change blowing in the nation which could not be underestimated, adding that Melaka could be the place for this change to happen.
“As much as some say that Chinese voter turnout might be low, that they have been strong supporters of DAP, I think they are very pragmatic people.
“We hope they will consider the candidates that we’ve put up from Gerakan,” he said when asked if he was confident Gerakan could win the votes of the Chinese community.
Gerakan is contesting in five seats in the Melaka polls, namely Asahan, Ayer Keroh, Kesidang, Kota Laksamana and Bandar Hilir. The incumbents in four of these seats are from DAP.
Muhyiddin also brushed off DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang’s claim earlier today that there were “strong objections” in Bersatu against naming Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as PN’s candidate to be chief minister if it grabs the most number of seats.
The Bersatu president said it was not Lim’s business to interfere in his party’s matters, adding that he would manage it himself.
“Why should he care about what happens in my party? I’ll manage it.
“I don’t meddle in DAP. I don’t ask anything about it,” he said after meeting the Chinese community here this afternoon.
Earlier, Lim described Muhyiddin’s inability to announce Mas Ermieyati as PN’s chief minister-designate as a ticking time bomb due to alleged opposition within Bersatu.
Mas Ermieyati, who is also deputy law minister, had won the Masjid Tanah parliamentary seat on a Barisan Nasional ticket in 2018.

kt notes:
Yes, Gerakan could have that possibility of winning over Chinese votes, but alas, that possibility has been voided by Gerakan's association with you, PN and worst of all, PRIBUMI Bersatu.
You see, Moo-Moo, it's not so much you or PN, but Mahathir. I dare say that, other than Lim Snr and Jnr and possibly Hannah (wakakaka), every or most Chinese detest the Evil Old Man. Fair is fair lah, after all, he hates us too.
Olih kerana mereka adalah 'orang asing' dan bukan bumiputera
That's why Mahathir bears them an invincible grudge

Majority of Chinese are low-income earners, says economist

THE perception that all Chinese in Malaysia are wealthy is wrong as data from government agencies indicate that a majority are wage-earners in this community, said economist Dr Muhammed Abdul Khalid.
The DM Analytics founder and chief economist said wealth inequality among the Chinese is also highest compared with the Bumiputeras and Indians.
MCA duo lodges report over Dr M's 'extremely rich Chinese' remark
MCA duo lodges report over Dr M's 'extremely rich Chinese' remark
Two Pasir Gudang MCA leaders have lodged police reports against Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his allegedly seditious remark about Chinese Malaysians becoming extremely rich and owning towns.
Division publicity bureau deputy chief Albert Tang (above, left) lodged his report at the Kulai Jaya police station yesterday morning while public complaints bureau deputy chief Ang Tun Chek did the same at the Masai police station in the evening.
In their reports which were published on social media, they accused the former prime minister of attempting to increase racial antagonism in the country.
Speaking with Malaysiakini, Ang urged the police to probe Mahathir under the Sedition Act 1948.
"His remark was seditious and had caused unhappiness in the Chinese community," he said.
Mahathir came under fire for reportedly saying in an interview with Asia Times that Chinese Malaysians had become extremely rich and “practically own all the towns in Malaysia”.
He had said that such disparity in wealth was unhealthy.
Asked if Mahathir's remark was similarly shared by Umno and Bersatu which were once led by the nonagenarian, Ang believed this was merely a personal view of Mahathir.
"He blurted out such remarks even with Pakatan Harapan. As a man who helmed the country twice, he should improve racial relations and he should have come up with measures to narrow the gap between urban and rural (folks) when he was still in office," Ang said.
"The city's wealth is free to grab for everyone who makes an effort in pursuing their career and business. What Mahathir said would inculcate resentment against rich people too.
"A few of us from Pasir Gudang MCA discussed this and felt that we should lodge a police report. The division leadership also agreed to this," Ang added.
Vernacular education allows the Chinese to bypass Malaysia's education, an obstacle course which I have made most difficult for them, wakakaka. Time for those eff-ers to be chauffeurs, gardeners, labourers lah
So that's why Gerakan will likely be bombed out in Melaka, wakakaka. As for Lim KHAT interfering with you party affairs, nowadays since he stop criticising his beloved Mahathir and his scandal, ...
... he has buggerall to do, except possibly resign but which to our dismay he has thus far refused to do, wakakaka.
Yes, the 2 Lims are really a disgrace to their race for their adoration of the old buffoon.
ReplyDeleteHannah Yeoh is running a close second (both Lims are joint first) to them.
Why an intelligent person like Hannah Yeoh should worship the old fart is beyond comprehension.
