PETALING JAYA: Opposition MPs have rubbished Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s claim that he still has the numbers in the Dewan Rakyat.
They said that Pakatan Harapan MPs, along with MPs from PSB – Baru Bian and Masir Kujat; Upko’s Wilfred Madius Tangau and independent Maszlee Malik had rejected Muhyiddin’s leadership.
“It is therefore impossible for Muhyiddin to command the majority.”
The statement was jointly issued by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Wilfred, Baru, Maszlee and Masir.
They again reiterated their call for Muhyiddin and his Cabinet to resign.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang, in a separate statement, also denied they were backing Muhyiddin’s administration.
“We have never signed any statutory declaration in support of Muhyiddin,” its information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin said.
This afternoon, Muhyiddin said he would not quit despite being pressured to do so, adding that he had received statutory declarations from MPs that “convinced me I still enjoy majority support at this time”.
Umno, which has 37 MPs including those who are part of the Cabinet, had yesterday announced that it was retracting its support for the PN-led government.
On July 7, they officially withdrew their support for Muhyiddin and demanded he step down.
PH has 88 MPs and Pejuang four. Two seats remain vacant, Gerik and Batu Sapi.
