Maszlee plays like BN-UMNO

TMI - Shame on Maszlee Malik, for playing like BN in letter by Dharm Navaratnam who reads The Malaysian Insight.

TODAY’s statement from our Minister of Education, Dr Maszlee Malik, that opposition MPs must obtain approval before they can enter schools is indeed extremely disturbing.

If I recall correctly, it was not too long ago that the BN government did something similar. Opposition MPs, or for that matter, any member of opposition parties were not allowed to give speeches in schools at all.

Dr Maszlee has defended his actions by saying that he doesn’t want opposition MPs to “spread hatred” and whatnot. Opposition MPs will need to abide by “conditions and prerequisites before they go (into schools)”. He went on to say that this was to prevent lies and hatred from being spread in schools. He went on to say that government MPs will come to schools to explain government policies.

Is this not a clear case of double standards? Is this not akin to censorship or perhaps even brainwashing? This is also a form of bigotry. In coming out with this statement you have also indirectly said that all opposition MPs are liars and spreaders of hate.

Why the fear of letting opposition MPs speak in schools? If they say something that you disagree with or that is against the government, then counter it with a statement or explanation. Let the children and teachers decide. Let them interpret it for themselves. Surely censoring of diverse opinions is detrimental to the intellectual well being of our children.

While you’re at it, why not ban books that go against what you think. Ban critical thought and critical discourse as well. One book that surely must be banned is “On The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin”. After all, some say that this piece of literature contradicts the existence of God and as such we should ban it. It could cause hatred.

Index Librorum Prohibitorum. Index Librorum Prohibitorum, (Latin: “Index of Forbidden Books”), list of books once forbidden by Roman Catholic church authority as dangerous to the faith or morals of Roman Catholics. Publication of the list ceased in 1966, and it was relegated to the status of a historic document

Will Maszlee have a Malaysian Education version?

Let’s make sure all students and teachers only support Liverpool, (although I much prefer Arsenal), as supporting different football teams could lead to fisticuffs and hatred as well.

I could go on but I should not make light of what I find an extremely ridiculous policy.

Schools are the place where our children should be exposed to all sorts of ideas and opinions. They should be allowed to discern for themselves what they believe to be right or wrong. They should be encouraged to ask questions and develop an inquiring mind. They can only get this if they get a balanced view from both the government and the opposition.

we should have many MORE Kassim Ahmad's in Malaysia

You will have those that will say that schools should be free of politics and that is definitely an ideal situation. It would have been so much better if you had simply said that political speeches should not be allowed in schools. You could even have gone so far as to say that any MPs invited for official functions in schools should go in their personal capacity and not in their political capacity.

Choosing to single out opposition MPs means that you are quite happy for the government to go in and spew their own propaganda in schools. This is wrong. Making it difficult for opposition MPs to enter schools and share their thoughts is not only a sign of arrogance but also of cowardice. Tsk, Tsk, Dr Maszlee. This is most unsavoury behaviour for a minister.

You are playing the same game that the previous government did for 61 years. A game of threats and of brainwashing. A game that the rakyat grew tired off and that is the only reason you are in power right now. The question is, for how long? If you keep this up, I won’t think for very much longer. We, the rakyat, are watching and we have learnt that we have power in the ballot.

bagaimana dengan 'holistic assessment of UEC' anda?

  1. I generally support freedom of speech, but with Opposition MPs openly inciting street violence over ICERD , I have very serious doubts about allowing them to enter schools, possibly to poison young minds.

Of course , it serves the author's agenda.

    1. When Pakatan was in Opposition they were very busy stomping on Najib and Hadi pictures, held fake funerals for Najib, co-opted Bersih, Suaram, Merdeka Centre, going on streets to protest Allah issue, demanding that Malay Bible can use Allah to replace Jesus, demanding UEC recognition, ad nauseam for 20 years, 1MDB, Scorpene, Altantuya, Sirul, wants to abolish University Act, Fake News law, GST etc.

Now it is UMNO/PAS turn to go on streets and create "trouble for PH". It is called reap what you sow....I am all for it even though I am Chinese.

I want that 94% PUNISHED. I want all those Chinese troublemaking towkays bankrupted so they cannot fund PH anymore. They and their families must suffer the consequences of overthrowing BN by lies, slanders, deceit, endless protests. It is war against that 94% Chinese Malaysians who voted DAP

Your " I want all those Chinese towkays bankrupted " statement seems rather stupid as though if there was unrest in the country it will only affect opposition business. Lucky u belong in the 6% anymore of your kind, Malaysia will be known as Donald Trump calls it a shithole country. PS. Do consider getting condoms we dont want to have any increase of that 6 % lineage.Cheers!!

  2. No political speeches in primary up to secondary schools should be allowed simply because children and teenagers at that age are not matured enough until they are at least 18 years and above and are allowed to vote. It's a clear cut case of indoctrination at this age and below.

However, colleges, universities and other centres of education where the students have reached the voting age of 18+ should allow politicians of both sides including NGOs, civil groups, religious bodies etc to have the freedom to propagate their beliefs, speeches, talks, etc.

    1. The holy Hadi should then tell off Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Indonesia for being signatories to ICERD. But his hypocrisy knows no bound as this ular ma had no problem taking under table money from THIEF Najib up to the tune of 90 million. Worse, he's now acting like god himself...this is what he said...." We can give rights to other religions but to say that other religions are the same as Islam is unacceptable." Hahahaha....RPuKi has accused the wrong person, Amar Singh, of having the headgear wound up too tight, hehe. As someone has so aptly described, Hadi is a disgusting and truly stupid man.

Hadi: 'Compulsory' for Muslims to oppose Icerd

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has said that all Muslims must oppose the ratification of the International Convention of the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (Icerd).

He said this is because the ratification of Icerd would place Islam at the "same level" as other religions and criticised Muslims who appeared to be supportive of the convention.

Death penalty: Six things you need to know
"Unfortunately there are Muslims who don't understand or pretend not to understand... they want to fight for equality by making Islam the same as other religions.

"We must oppose (Icerd) because it is compulsory for Muslims to say that Islam is correct. We can give rights to other religions but to say that other religions are the same as Islam is unacceptable.

"This is a line we cannot cross," he said during a ceramah at Kuala Terengganu last night, as reported by the New Straits Times today.

Icerd, he said, would actually be unfair to the country, as the bumiputera Muslims are lagging behind.

Using the example of parents with different number of children, he said one cannot give all parents the same things in an effort to be fair.

"The bumiputera Muslims are lagging behind. The (British) colonisers gave us poor learning facilities while the non-Muslims were placed in cities to control trade, industry, the ports and many more.

"To remove (our privileges) in our weak state in the name of equality is not right," he said.

The government's recent proposal to ratify Icerd became highly contentious as critics fear it will result in the removal of the Malays' special privileges.

PAS, along with Umno, have announced they will hold a joint protest against the ratification of Icerd in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 8.

  5. When Lim Guan Eng was Penang Chief Minister, government schools were forbidden to invite or allow him to attend school functions.
Even when schools received Penang state govrnmment financial grants, only State Government civil servants were allowed to hand over the allocations, no elected representatives.

    1. Alas, Ah Moc never cry foul, not even a whimper. when LGE, even as the Penang CM then, were banned from schools, so busy was he in licking Jibby's arse, hehe. He would be applauded now castigating Dr Maszlee if he wasn't such a hypocrite himself. What's with these type of people....can't they see themselves? Decrying others as hypocrites when he himself is such bastard hypocrite himself, exactly like how he likes to falsely accuse others of being a dedak-makaner, as he puts it, when he himself is obviously one ! Podah la....
