Palestinian goalkeeper Saleem Al-Ashqar was shot dead by Israeli forces in Gaza. Married just five months ago, he leaves behind a wife expecting their first child. The Palestinian Football Association says more than 1,000 Palestinian athletes have been killed since October 2023.

Today Philippe Lazzarini's term as UNRWA chief has come to an end. We have submitted a demand for a waiver of his immunity to allow his indictment for complicity in terrorism, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Lazzarini cannot claim he didn't know. We have all the receipts.

Others were massacred in villages, burned alive, or subjected to forced conversions and enslavement.
No matter how much evil Erdogan tries to deny it, it happened and the world should know about this horrendous genocide of Armenians at the hands of the Turks.

CPJ did not remove any of these names because of political pressure. We have faced enormous pressure over the past 2-½ years to add or remove names because of differing political agendas or differing views on our methodology and definitions. We have not removed a single name as a result of such pressure.
The only time we remove or add names is if new information, verified by CPJ, establishes that an individual should have been included or excluded as per our existing and long-standing methodology (e.g. if they are engaged in combat or inciting violence with imminent effect).
CPJ has tracked and documented cases of journalists killed, imprisoned, or missing in relation to their work since 1992. Our methodology is applied in the same way globally regardless of political affiliation.
Eight individuals were removed from the CPJ database after Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) published obituaries identifying them as members of their armed groups. Subsequent research by CPJ staff, which involves speaking directly to at least two independent sources, determined that the individuals had participated in combat. Seven of those records were removed in 2026 and one in 2025. Those decisions reflect the application of CPJ's existing methodology—not a change to it.
