Qatar’s PM calls for end to ‘double standards’ towards Israel
Qatar’s PM urged the international community to reject “double standards” and hold Israel accountable, as the foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic states gathered in Doha on Sunday ahead of an emergency summit called in response to Israel’s attack on the capital last week.
PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al Thani, who is Qatar’s foreign minister, accused Israel of state terrorism, and said its unprecedented attack on Hamas members in Doha was “an attack on the principle of mediation itself”.
But he said Qatar would continue its mediation efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza despite the attack.
“The time has come for the international community to stop using double standards and to punish Israel for all the crimes it has committed,” he said.
“What is encouraging Israel to continue… is the silence, the inability of the international community to hold it accountable.”
