Bersatu grassroots fear split in party after Muhyiddin steps down
Many fear that there will be cracks in the party stemming from a tussle for the presidency.

SHAH ALAM: Bersatu grassroots are worried that the party would be divided by a potential tussle for the top post following Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision not to defend the presidency in the party elections next year.
Several delegates who spoke to FMT at the party’s general assembly here are concerned about the future of the seven-year-old party without Muhyiddin at its helm.
Fareed Tarmizi, from Lipis, Pahang, said they were worried of a potential split if Muhyiddin were to leave the party before the 16th general election.

“It’s just not the right time for him to bow out as Bersatu is a relatively new party.”
Earlier today, Muhyiddin said it was time for him to let go of the reins as the party has many capable leaders.
The former prime minister urged all Bersatu leaders to sit down and discuss who should be the next president to avoid any internal strife.
He called on Muhyiddin to reconsider the decision.

Siti Romawati Mat Daud, the Jeli Wanita Bersatu information chief, said there was no reason for Muhyiddin to step down.
“He had contributed a lot to the country, especially when Malaysia was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
She also claimed that Muhyiddin was a leader who had not been mired in controversy.
