KOTA KINABALU, Nov 24 — Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor has given his assurance that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition will give its full cooperation to the federal government formed under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Hajiji, who is also the state Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, said that GRS would work with the new government for Sabah’s interests.

“GRS has full confidence that the cooperation would work to realise several aspects of development including fulfilling the conditions outlined under the Malaysian Agreement 1963,” he said.

“Anwar’s vast experience will be able to economically revive the state, which is most needed by the people as well as development to the whole country in future,” he said in a brief statement here today.

He added that he hoped Pakatan Harapan’s election manifesto will be properly implemented, including pledges to empower Sabah and Sarawak.

Hajiji was among those today who pledged support to the coalition government Anwar was assembling on the advice of the Yang diPertuan Agong.

He had earlier this week pledged his support to Perikatan Nasional to form a federal government with chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the 10th prime minister.

His move had angered Sabah Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin who accused Hajiji of breaking their pact to support BN post-election.

He said that GRS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) agreed that there was an immediate need for the formation of a federal government.

Separately, Upko president-designate Datuk Ewon Benedick congratulated Anwar and said that his appointment as prime minister heralded a new era for Malaysia.

“Malaysia needs a leader who can manage the economic problems plaguing the country now and subsequently who can implement the reform agenda in governance - that leadership exists in Anwar,” he said.
