Annuar Musa says not invited to BN’s candidate unveiling tonight

Former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa had said he wanted to defend his Ketereh seat and would not contest in any other constituency.

PETALING JAYA: Former Ketereh MP Annuar Musa says he has not been invited to Barisan Nasional’s candidate announcement ceremony for the 15th general election (GE15), which will be taking place at Umno’s headquarters tonight.

At a press conference, the former BN secretary-general said he had yet to receive the invite “for now”.

BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is set to announce the coalition’s GE15 candidates at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur tonight.

It was previously reported that Annuar, the communications and multimedia minister, might not get to defend his parliamentary seat in GE15.

Last Saturday, Annuar said he wanted to defend his Ketereh seat and would not contest in any other constituency.

The former Umno secretary-general lost the seat to a PKR candidate in 2008 but wrested it back in 2013, before retaining the seat in the last general election in 2018.

Annuar admitted that he was among 12 Umno MPs who were set to be dropped from contesting the coming polls, based on a list that made its rounds online.

“I admit that and I don’t deny it, why hide (being dropped)? However, it is not an issue as the party is still negotiating (the matter),” he said.

He maintained that he would not lobby or appeal to the party in the event he was not nominated to contest the Ketereh seat, adding that he would abide by the Umno leadership’s decision.

Annuar said Kelantan Puteri Umno chief Marzuani Ardila Ariffin had been offered the seat after she was summoned to a meeting with Umno leaders.

He said Marzuani, who is also Ketereh Puteri Umno chief, had informed him of the offer, though he was unsure if she had accepted it.

He added that he had advised Marzuani to stand in Ketereh if she was confident of winning the seat for Umno.
