Tengku Zafrul pork-barreling Kuala Selangor for GE15?

Loke slams Tengku Zafrul for ‘adopting’ Kuala Selangor

Loke Siew Fook says Tengku Zafrul Aziz should not be using his position as finance minister to gain an advantage in any seat he intends to contest in GE15.

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has criticised finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz for getting his ministry to “adopt” Kuala Selangor.

The former transport minister took to social media to criticise the move, saying it was unheard of for a ministry to take such an approach.

“A ministry should be crafting policies and providing services to the entire nation, not selected areas,” Loke said on Facebook.

He said Tengku Zafrul should not be using his position to give himself an added advantage to contest the next general election (GE15) in any particular constituency.

Tengku Zafrul is rumoured to be eyeing a seat in GE15. There is speculation that he will contest the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat on an Umno ticket.

Speaking at an event in Kuala Selangor yesterday, the finance minister said he wanted the finance ministry to adopt the district to help it develop.

He also announced that Puncak Alam, a township within the Kuala Selangor district, had been given the go-ahead for the construction of an East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) station.

Loke, however, pointed out that any approval to construct an ECRL station should not fall under the purview of the finance minister.

“Approvals for all ‘railway schemes’ fall under the purview of the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), an agency under the transport ministry,” he said.
