China's Geely invests US$326mil to build satellites for autonomous cars

BEIJING: China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group said on March 3 it was investing 2.27 billion yuan (RM1.37bil) in a new satellite manufacturing plant, where it plans to build low-orbit satellites to provide more accurate data for self-driving cars.
Geely, one of China's most internationally-known companies due to its investments in Daimler, Volvo and Proton, is building the facilities in Taizhou, where it has car plants. It aims to produce 500 satellites a year by around 2025, with around 300 highly-skilled staff, it said in a statement.
Geely's technology development arm, Geely Technology Group, launched Geespace to research, launch, and operate low-orbit satellites in 2018.
Geespace will begin the launch of its commercial low-orbit satellite network by the end of this year, Geely said.
Geely said low-orbit satellites would offer high speed Internet connectivity, precise navigation, and cloud computing capabilities to cars with autonomous driving technology.
Geely, which sold 2.18 million cars last year, is among global automakers from Tesla to Toyota to pursue autonomous driving technologies.

That's innovative and forward futuristic thinking in the automobile industry.
And Malaysia wants to build flying cars and Car No 3, because according to the guppies' Atuk, there are 4,000 parts in a car, wakakaka. Weren't there 4,000 parts in Car No 1 and Car No 2? Wakakaka again.
Yes, we already have two cars, the first being (until recently) unsuccessful and a leech on Malaysia's national resources.
As I mentioned earlier, during a brief stopover in Malaysia while on vacation I caught up with an old matey who informed me that Car No 3 was guaranteed because of "connections" and "financial involvement". That probably could be the motive why Atuk wants a Car No 3.
But how now that he's out? Wakakaka.
Why can't we (or he) look, for example, more into Geely's plans to build low-orbit satellites to provide more accurate data for self-driving cars?
Alas, but hey he's gone. Maybe we can now do something more worthwhile and useful outside of his nonsense, influence and control.
