Probe Hadi’s claim of foreign anti-govt offer, says Rayer

The Jelutong MP says the public deserves to know what was discussed and whether a representative of a foreign government was involved

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang must explain why the alleged 2014 meeting with US officials was not immediately reported to the government.

PETALING JAYA: An MP has called for an investigation into the claim by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that a foreign power once offered assistance to the party to bring down the government.

The public deserved to know what was discussed and whether a representative of a foreign government was involved in any attempt to “influence, destabilise or facilitate the removal of a duly elected Malaysian government”, said DAP’s RSN Rayer, who is Jelutong MP.

He said that if Hadi’s allegation was true, it would constitute a matter of national security and sovereignty. “What is even more disturbing is the apparent failure to report such an alleged meeting to the Malaysian authorities,” he wrote in a Facebook post tonight.

Rayer said PAS could not demand transparency and accountability from others while remaining silent about an allegation of this magnitude involving a foreign government.

Hadi had said earlier today that the offer of help to bring down the government was made at a meeting at the US embassy in 2014 during US president Barack Obama’s visit to Malaysia.

Rayer said: “Hadi must explain why this was not immediately reported to the prime minister, the home ministry, the foreign ministry, police or the relevant national security agencies. Why did PAS stay silent all this while? This is a national security issue and not something to boast about casually at a muktamar”.

Hadi, speaking at the party’s general assembly today, said Takiyuddin Hassan and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, went to the US embassy for the meeting. He claimed the US was “prepared to help topple the government”, but the two PAS leaders were not swayed by the offer and remained firm in rejecting it.
