Penang PH to discuss Umno’s position in state govt
Its deputy chairman, Faiz Fadzil, says a decision needs to be made following attacks by Umno against the coalition, including at the recent Umno general assembly.

The meeting will be held at the Penang DAP office.
“Several statements were made by an Umno delegate at the party’s general assembly; they were inappropriate and hurtful.
“We have never attacked Umno at any state-level programme,” he told FMT.
On Sept 12, Permatang Pauh Umno chief Zaidi Said at the general assembly claimed that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s strategy of cooperating with PKR was aimed at weakening the party, which would eventually affect its coalition partner, DAP.
He said DAP, which is seen as Umno’s “main enemy”, could not be defeated directly because the party had its own voter base.
On Sept 16, Zaidi resigned as a Seberang Perai city councillor and apologised for his speech.
Faiz said Penang PH would also discuss a call by Sungai Acheh assemblyman Rashidi Zainol for cooperation between BN and PH to continue.
Rashidi, the only Umno-BN representative in the Penang government, described the cooperation as constructive and beneficial to the state.
Faiz said PH had previously decided to retain Umno in the state government, “but the situation is different now”.
“In Perak and Pahang, we maintain good relations. Why is Umno behaving like this?
“If Umno’s representative wants to remain in the state government, they must be sincere,” he said.
Earlier, DAP national adviser Lim Guan Eng called for Umno to be removed from the Penang government after BN forged cooperation with Perikatan Nasional in Negeri Sembilan.
However, Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the state PH leadership had yet to receive any directive on the matter from the central leadership.
