KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution in Lim Guan Eng’s undersea tunnel project trial will call Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Rajendran Anthony to testify later this month.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed the sessions court here that the prosecution would call Rajendran on Sept 28 after investigating officer Zulhilmi Ramli completes his testimony.
He said a copy of Rajendran’s witness statement had been given to Lim’s lawyers.
Rajendran was MBPP’s engineering department director when the undersea tunnel project was proposed in 2011, and took part in early discussions with Consortium Zenith BUCG Sdn Bhd on preparing the request for proposal.

Earlier today, Zulhilmi reiterated under cross-examination that his investigations showed Lim had “promised” to award the tunnel project to businessman Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli through direct negotiations.
“The project then changed to an open tender. The accused (Lim) also promised Zarul that it would ultimately be awarded to him, and that state government officials would assist him,” he said.
Lawyer Ramkarpal Singh challenged the officer’s opinion, saying the tunnel project was never meant to be awarded through direct negotiation and that Lim had made this clear at exco meetings.
However, Zulhilmi disagreed.
Lim is accused of using his position as chief minister at the time to solicit a 10% share of the profits from the undersea tunnel project and accepting RM3.3 million in bribes from Zarul.
He also faces two charges of dishonestly misappropriating state land worth RM208.7 million.
